Foulger Collects $2500 Payday After Antioch Speedway Victory
Troy Foulger impressed with a $2500 IMCA Modified feature victory Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was the Main Event for the two day Summer Nationals event. Foulger had a front row start and led all 20 laps, but it wasn’t that easy for the four time track champion. He had to deal with heavy pressure from a three time champion down the stretch.
Bobby Hogge IV had already won the Late Model Main Event and worked his way into second in the IMCA Modified feature. By then, Foulger had a straightaway advantage, but Hogge rapidly erased that lead. Once Hogge caught Foulger, he kept sticking a nose underneath him in Turns 3 and 4, but Foulger ran a perfect line on the outside.
Hogge made a last turn move to try and get by, but Foulger beat him to the line for the rich payday in the Bowers Racing Modified. Hogge settled for second. Randy McDaniel made a late move to take third from Kellen Chadwick, and Darrell Hughes II rounded out the Top five finishers at the checkered flag.
Hogge put on a show in the Late Model Main Event and collected the $2,000 victory in the 20 lap race. Hogge started back in tenth and was in second by lap four. Paul Guglielmoni set the early pace, but Hogge made an inside pass in Turn 4 of the fifth lap and grabbed the lead. From there, Hogge stretched his lead to a half a lap by the time the checkered flag flew.
Randy Shafer had his hands full in the race for second, but he held the spot during the final ten laps despite constant pressure from third place finisher Anthony Restad and fourth place finisher Ryan McDaniel. NASCAR star Kenny Wallace won his heat race and had a front row start for the feature. He led one lap before a yellow flag waved. He suffered a problem with his motor during the first lap caution period and retired from the race.
Darren Thomas had a front row start for the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event and led the race all the way. Two mid race caution flags slowed the pace, but Thomas resumed command from there to post the $750 victory. Point leader Fred Ryland gained second from Jorddon Braaten on lap 13, but he could only chase Thomas to the second place finish. Brian Cooper got around Braaten late for a third place finish.
Antioch Speedway is dark for the Fourth Of July weekend, but racing resumes on Saturday night, July 11th. Northern All Stars Winged 360 Sprint Cars, IMCA Sport Modifieds, DIRTCar Late Models and Hobby Stocks are all on the card.
