Weekend Review Edition
The Summer Nationals at Antioch Speedway
The buzz probably hasn't been out there about the late June Summer Nationals races at Antioch Speedway, but here's what is on the schedule:
June 26 (Friday):
Antioch – Summer Nationals
– IMCA Modifieds, Limited Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods (no track
points but there will be national, regional, and state points), Hobby
Stocks, Dwarf Cars.
June 27 (Saturday):
Antioch – Summer Nationals – DIRTcar Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods.
NASCAR
racer Kenny Wallace will be driving a Modified and a Late Model that
weekend and is willing to drive any other race car made available to
him. He'll compete in every class he can. The track traditionally runs
a big race on the weekend of the Sears Point NASCAR race, and this is
no exception.
Questions were asked to this reporter about the purse, and this is the word we got from John Soares Jr. at Antioch Speedway. The Friday night IMCA Modified race will pay $1500 to win and a minimum of $125 to start, which could end up being $150. The Sport Mods will race for $500 to win.
Expectations are for good car counts in both classes, and we are
already hearing rumors of cars coming down from Oregon for this event.
The Saturday night IMCA Modified feature will pay $2500 to win and will pay the same to start as mentioned above. Sport Mods get $750 to win. The Late Models get a minimum of $1500 to win and $150 to start regardless of car count.
John would like to pay $2000 to win if he can get 20 cars, and I'm
thinking that will include an increase in the start money, though I
didn't get clarification on that part. However, these two races should
be big.

Big $1000 To Win Hobby Stock Races At Hayfork Speedway
I
had this note passed across my desk as we were going live with our
previous audio show. Hayfork Speedway, which features Hobby Stocks,
Mini Stocks and Enduro Cars this year, wants Hobby Stock drivers to come
on up and race. How badly do they want them? They are offering $1000
to win on July 11th and August 8th.
Mike Rydman, who is
a past Top 5 Hobby Stock racer at Antioch Speedway, recently spoke with
Hayfork Speedway promoter Dwayne Brown. They are hoping the extra
money will attract racers from Orland, Chico, Placerville and maybe even
further south. Hayfork Speedway is in its fourth season, and they have
already had a few big money Hobby Stock and Mini Stock races in their
short history.
Papenhausen, Wilson Antioch Speedway Feature Winners
Richard Papenhausen came from last starting to win his fourth 20 lap Late Model Main Event of the season at Antioch Speedway Saturday night. Papenhausen started back in the fourth row and chased down leader and rival Jeff Decker for the victory. As Papenhausen collected the victory, Decker settled for second ahead of Chester Kniss, in his best finish yet. David Newquist was fourth ahead of Limited Late Model point leader Larry Damitz, Danny Malfatti, Rod Arnold and Rob Norris. Papenhauisen won his heat race ahead of Newquist to reclaim the point lead. Damitz won the other heat ahead of Kniss.
Kyle Wilson has two IMCA Modified feature wins at Merced Speedway and has been knocking on the door to victory in recent visits to Antioch. Saturday night, he finally grabbed the lead after battling with Shawn DeForest and Carl Berendsen II in the early goings. DeForest spun from the lead and Berendsen made a pit stop and had to come back through the pack. K. Wilson bested the 13 car field for the victory as Berendsen came back for a season best second. Sixth row starter Nick Viscusi had his best ever Modified finish in third as Merced point leader Alex Wilson and Antioch point leader Scott Busby rounded out the Top 5. Busby was challenging for the lead at one point before spinning in an incident that collected Bobby Hogge IV. Bobby Motts Jr. finished sixth ahead of Chris Elby, Jim DiGiovanni, Brian Cass and Shawn DeForest. DeForest won his heat race ahead of Elby, while K. Wilson won his heat in front of Kellen Chadwick.
Last week, 2010 Hobby Stock champion Chris Sorensen led for several laps before he let the 20 lap feature victory slip away from him. This time, the front row starter would not be denied as he collected a well earned victory. Danny Jones grabbed his fourth second place finish of the season ahead of point leader and fifth row starter Kimo Oreta, Robert Niven and Chase Templeton. Brent Curran was sixth ahead of Jordan Swank, Frank Furtado, Jessica Jones and Michael Cooper. Making only his second start in Hobby Stocks, Brent Curran won his heat race ahead of Sorensen, while Cooper took advantage of a Niven mistake to win his first heat of the season.
Since debuting his new Dwarf Car five races ago, point leader David Teves has the fastest car in the division, Teves and rival Danny Wagner shared the second row and made their way past heat winner Miranda Chappa and Mike Corsaro in the early goings of the race. D. Teves would win the battle for his second 20 lap victory of the season. Wagner settled for second, followed by Adam Teves, Kevin Miraglio and Corsaro. Miranda ended up sixth ahead of Josh Miller, Tim Reeder, Brian Gray and Kurtis Kraig. Chappa won her heat race ahead of D. Teves, while A. Teves was a heat winner in front of Corsaro.
Racing returns to Antioch Speedway next Saturday night with a six division program consisting of DIRTcar Late Models, Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Wingless Spec Sprints, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Dwarf Cars

Hensley Drives Flawless Race For Chowchilla Speedway Victory
Josh Hensley ran a smooth race up front and was rewarded with his first career 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified victory at Chowchilla Speedway. Hensley is the current Merced point leader, and he had to deal with the pressure of 2014 Merced champion Rick Diaz and Keith Brown Jr. throughout the race. However, Hensley kept his cool and led every lap in victory.
Diaz got a flat right rear tire with seven laps remaining and surrendered second to Brown. Brown tried making the low pass for the win, but he settled for second. Diaz charged back to finish third ahead of Nick Tucker and Marisa Odgers.
Watsonville visitor Tim Clark Jr. won the IMCA Modified 20 lap Main Event. Clark grabbed the lead from early leader Ray Mayer on a lap 11 restart and led the rest of the way for the win. Contact sent Mayer spinning from second on lap 18. As Clark won, Harley Turner would finish second. New point leader Danny Luukkonen was dropped to fourth behind Turner for his part in the Turner spin as Ricky Thatcher was scored fifth.
Attrition took a heavy toll on the Hobby Stocks, and George Silva capitalized on a mistake made by point leader Kevin Joaquin. Joaquin seemed to have the race in hand as he led all the way to the seventh lap of the ten lap race. When Joaquin spun in Turn 4 while trying to lap a slower car, Silva was there to grab the lead and his first win of the season. Joaquin recovered in second as Bobby Williams and Van Hoff rounded out the finish.
Darren Miguel led from flag to flag to win his second ten lap Mini Stock Main Event. Chris Corder spun from second in Turn 4 of the eighth lap and fell to third behind second place Mike Congdon.
Racing continues on Sunday, June 28 at Chowchilla Speedway with a four division show that will include the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks. Chowchilla Speedway is located at the Chowchilla Fairgrounds. Racing starts at 7:00 PM.
