DeCarlo, Decker, Gomez Win Antioch Speedway Main Events

Antioch, CA...July 1...Nick DeCarlo scored the victory in the 25 lap All Star Series A Modified Main Event at Antioch Speedway.  The two time Petaluma Speedway champion was also the winner of the New Year's Bash this year, and his win  on Saturday night paid $1,000.  DeCarlo started on the sixth row outside, right behind Scott Busby.  Championship contender Mike Salazar had his motor problems worked out and led the early laps.  On his way to the front, Busby got caught up in a Raymond Lindeman spin and had to pit with a flat tire.  DeCarlo made his way to the front, and Busby wasn't far behind him.  DeCarlo and Busby had a good battle with DeCarlo coming out ahead.  Busby settled for second.  Salazar was a solid third as Eric Berendsen and Trevor Clymens rounded out the Top 5.

Jeff Decker won the 20 lap DIRTcar Late Model Main Event.  The incoming point leader had a front row start for the race and was impressive in victory.  As Decker was driving to his second win of the season, reigning champion Richard Papenhausen was making a late charge to the front.  Rookie Kimo Oreta won his first heat race earlier in the evening and managed to beat Papenhausen back to the line in a good race for second.  David Newquist and Chester Kniss rounded out the Top 5.

Todd Gomez returned and won his second 20 lap B Modified Main Event.  Gomez is a past Street Stock champion at the track, and this was his second win of the season.  Gomez had a front row start and at one time had a straightaway advantage wiped out by a yellow flag for a Doff Cooksey spin.  Gomez continued to lead the way and would score an impressive victory.  Cooksey battled back to beat heat winner K.C. Keller to the line for second.  Chuck Golden and Mark Garner completed the Top 5.

Point leader Chris Long won an eventful 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event.  It was the third win of the season for Long.  The race started out with heat race winner Frank Furtado building a straightaway advantage before a yellow flag bunched the field.  Anthony Vigna gained the lead on the restart, but his hopes of winning ended with a blown motor.  Furtado got caught up in that, and Long had the lead over Dave Lincoln.  Contact sent Lincoln spinning, and Long was starting to smoke late in the race.  Heat race winner Robert Niven gave Long all the pressure he could handle, but Long prevailed at the checkered flag.  Niven was a career best second, followed by Brent Curran, Gene Haney and Jordan Swank.

Point leader Mike Corsaro won his first 20 lap Dwarf Car Main Event of the season.  Corsaro spun early on and had to restart in the back.  Devan Kammermann made a pit stop with a flat tire, and David Michael Rosa led Brandon Anderson early on.  Corsaro made a charge through the pack and was quickly up to second.  The leaders hit lapped traffic, allowing Corsaro to take the lead.  Charlie Correia brought out a yellow flag with five laps remaining.  Corsaro had pressure from Rosa, but he would not be denied the impressive victory.  Anderson finished a season best third, followed by Chuck Connover and Kammermann.

Racing Resumes next week with the Jerry Hetrick Memorial A Modified race.  Also on the card will be the Wingless Spec Sprints, DIRTcar Late Models, Limited Late Models, Hobby Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Bay Area Hardtops.  For further information, go to www.antiochspeedway.com.

Brown, Diaz, Nelson Score Timmy Post Memorial Wins
At Merced Speedway

Merced, CA...Randy Brown pocketed $2,000 for his win in the 30 lap Timmy Post Memorial Race for IMCA Modifieds Saturday night at Merced Speedway.  The night's racing action featured increased purses for all three divisions.  In addition to that, there was a live concert under the grandstands before the races and a fireworks display after the IMCA Modifieds ran their race.  The entire show was free to the spectators.  It was a fitting memorial event for Timmy Post, who was a young man who died in an automobile accident on graduation night in 1999.  Timmy grew up at the speedway and was a beloved member of the racing community.  The free admission for such a big night was exactly the kind of thing Timmy would have loved to see happen at the track.

Randy Brown is the reigning IMCA Modified champion and current point leader, and he had a ten hour drive from Willamette Speedway in Oregon, where he had been competing the night before.  Brown started third and wasted little time battling Joe Antonetti and Ryan Larimer for the lead.  Two time winner and multi time champion Paul Stone started back in ninth and worked his way to the front.  However, the flying Brown forced Stone to settle for second this time.  Championship contender Mike Villanueva was a strong third as Bruce "Bubba" Nelson, Antonetti, Larimer, multi time Southwest Tour champion Jim Pettit II, Darrell Hughes II, Bret Bennett and four time Merced champion Ramie Stone rounded out the Top 10.  Brown, P. Stone, Larimer and Troy Stone were eight lap heat race winners.  Derek Nance won the 12 lap B Main ahead of Harley Turner and past Street Stock champion Randy Brewer.

Two time reigning IMCA Sport Modified champion Rick Diaz won his fourth 30 lap Main Event.  Diaz started back in eighth and quickly charged up to third as Dylan Schriner took the lead from Tim Ragsdale.  Diaz grabbed second from Ragsdale by lap 10 and went to work on Schriner.   A high move in Turn 2 of the 12th lap gained Diaz the lead.  Diaz maintained his hold on the lead from there and brought it home to an impressive victory.  Schriner had pressure from State point leader Shane DeVolder and 21st starter Lee Jensen.  A lap 23 restart provided DeVolder with his opportunity to move into second, and Jenson grabbed third from Schriner two laps later.  At the checkered flag, it was Diaz winning, followed by DeVolder, Jensen, Schriner, Jeremy Hoff, Paul Espino, T.J. Etchison, Danny Roe, Shawn Bryant and Tanner Thomas.  DeVolder, Diaz, Schriner and Jack Aguiar were eight lap heat race winners.  Jensen had to win the 12 lap B Main ahead of Dave Smart and Andrew Odgers to get into the feature.

Two time Hobby Stock champion Bruce Nelson won the 30 lap Hobby Stock Main Event.  Nelson took the wheel of reigning champion Michael Shearer's #67j car and made a charge from 10th starting to score his first win of the season.  Kodie Dean and championship rival Garrett Corn, both three time winners this year, raced into the first two positions early on.  Nelson made an inside pass on the back stretch on lap six to take third from Robbie Loquaci.  After a lap nine yellow flag, an intense three car battle began between Corn, Nelson and Dean.  An inside move on the front stretch of the 15th lap gained Corn the lead from Dean with Nelson moving by for second.  Corn and Nelson ran side by side for two laps before Nelson moved ahead.  Multi time Watsonville champion Billy Nelson moved up to battle Dean for third.  There was no stopping Bruce Nelson as he won with Corn settling for second.  Billy Nelson out dueled Dean for third as Kyle Wood, Austin Van Hoff, Shannon Nelson, James Stockton, Loquaci and Kristie Shearer completed the Top 10.  Billy Nelson, Bruce Nelson and Dean won eight lap heat races.

Next Saturday night's races are presented by Blue Line Rentals.  IMCA RaceSaver Sprints make their second appearance at the speedway along with IMCA Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Mini Late Models.  For further information, go to www.racemerced.com.

Becker Battles Majdic For Silver Dollar Speedway Win

Chico, CA...June 30...Reigning 410 Sprint Car champion Sean Becker returned to Chico Silver Dollar Speedway and won the 25 lap Main Event Friday night.  Becker drives the Dan Menne owned car, and he started his night off with an eight lap heat race win.  Fellow heat race winner Chase Majdic won the other heat race.  The 2016-17 Red Bluff 500 Open Kart champion Majdic sprinted out to the early Main Event lead ahead of reigning Placerville champion Mason Moore and current point leader and fast timer (11.524) Andy Forsberg.  A lap three caution flag flew for Brent Bjork in Turn 4.  Becker settled into third behind Majdic and Moore on the restart.  Becker took second from Moore on lap eight, just before the final caution flag waved for Kalib Henry in Turn 1.  Madjic led Becker on the restart as Forsberg and Michael Ing dropped Moore back to fifth.  Becker began pressuring Majdic for the lead before racing by on lap 19.  Once in front, Becker brought it home to a well earned victory.  Forsberg took second from Majdic at the white flag and held him off to finish there.  Ing was a solid fourth, followed by Justyn Cox, Moore, Brad Bumgarner, Henry, Brain Boswell and Bjork.

Point leader Phil Marino won the 20 lap Street Stock Main Event.  After settling for second to Richard Workman in the eight lap heat race, Marino raced into the Main Event lead from the start.  Brent Lawrence was an early second, followed closely by Cory Hall.  A lap eight caution flag flew for Fritz Zanker in Turn 4.  Lawrence headed pitside, and Marino led Hall and Workman on the restart.  Hall briefly took the lead from Marino on lap ten, only to watch Marino race by a lap later.  Last row starter Gary Newman was up to fourth, and a lap 16 caution flag flew for Mike Slingtom in Turn 4.  Newman grabbed third on the restart as Marino continued to lead Hall.  Marino led the remaining laps to score the victory ahead of Hall, Newman, Danny Dozier, Workman, Slingtom, Zanker and Lawrence.

Craig Swim stayed in the Wingless Spec Sprint championship hunt with his first 20 lap Main Event victory.  After an eight lap heat race win for point leader Tony Richards ahead of Swim, Swim raced into the Main Event lead at the start.  Richards settled into second ahead of Gary Paulson and Casey McClain.  A winner on the Hunt Wingless Spec Sprint Tour this year, McClain slipped past Paulson for third on lap four.  Richards closed in a bit on Swim down the stretch in the non stop event.  However, Swim prevailed at the checkered flag as Richards settled for second and McClain was third.  Jeremy Wilson made a late pass on Paulson to finish fourth as Josh Tucker and Barry Pries Jr. completed the finishing order.

IMCA Sport Modified point leader Phillip Shelby won his third 20 lap Main Event.  Yreka point leader Justin Foux darted out to the early Main Event lead ahead of Jeremy Phillips and Shelby.  Shelby slipped past Phillips for second on lap three and took up pursuit of Foux in the non stop event.  Foux and Shelby began a thrilling side by side battle for the lead on lap eight, and Shelby finally grabbed the lead on lap 14.  Phillips raced by Foux for second on lap 15.  Shelby sped home to the impressive victory.  Phillips lost his second place finish as he didn't report to tech after the races, giving the position to Foux, followed by State point leader Shane DeVolder, heat race winner Tyler Rodgers, Sean Halterman, Jeff Fear and Raymond Benkowski.

Jason Armstrong captured his third ten lap California Hardtop Main Event victory.  The California Hardtops brought six old time race cars, but Dave Reed crashed early in preliminaries to end his evening.  The eight lap heat race was won impressively by Ron Ruiz ahead of Armstrong.  Armstrong grabbed the lead in the Main Event and steadily pulled away.  The man with the perfect attendance record this year, "The Rocket Man" Ken Clifford, retired before the checkered flag with steering issues.  Son Jason Clifford was battling over heating issues.  There were no issues for Armstrong until the final lap.  With a big lead over Ruiz and Dan Whitney, Armstrong spun in the final turn.  He had the presence of mind to gather it back up and still finish first, followed by a season best second for Ruiz, Whitney, J. Clifford and K. Clifford.

Langenderfer Comes Back From Spin To Win
At Orland Raceway

Orland, CA...July 1...Point leader Jeremy Langenderfer rebounded from a spin to win his fourth 20 lap Pure Stock Main Event Saturday night at Orland Raceway.  The double point event was part of Girl Scout Night at the races.  Langenderfer set the early pace ahead of Cody Bundy.  Langenderfer spun on lap seven, giving the lead to Bundy.  However, Keith Ross took the lead from Bundy on the restart.  Bundy came back to grab the lead from Ross on lap ten as Langenderfer was back up to third.  Langenderfer was second on lap 13, and Bundy's brush with the front wall enabled Langenderfer to regain  the lead.  Contact saw Bundy spin from second on lap 18 as Ross's run up front ended.  Langenderfer went on to win the eventful race ahead of Brad Ray, Chris Barnett, Shannon Collins and Amanda Koop.

Donovan Chilton snapped point leader Tom Davis' Mini Stock Main Event win streak at three with his impressive 20 lap victory.  Dustin Hills led the opening lap before Davis went by on the backstretch to lead the second lap.  Chilton was third, and he made an outside pass on the back stretch of the fourth lap to gain second from Hills.  Seth Libbee spun exiting Turn 4 for a lap six caution flag.  Chilton raced by Davis for the lead on the restart as championship contender Sean Perry settled into third.  The lead three cars ran closely for several laps, but Perry slowed and pitted in the infield on lap 18.  Chilton brought it home to victory ahead of Davis, Hills, reigning champion John Kirkpatrick and Perry.

Point leader Keith Ross had luck on his side in winning the 20 lap Mini Truck Main Event.  "Rollin" Olin Crain raced into the lead at the start of the race ahead of 2013 champion Ross Vige.  Ross made an outside pass in Turn 2 of the second lap to take second from Vige, and reigning champion Dan Webster made a similar move to take over third on lap three.  A crash in Turn 2 forced a lap 16 caution flag, which proved to be Crain's undoing.  Ross raced into the lead on the restart, but Crain was working hard on the outside groove in his effort to regain the lead.  Crain spun exiting the final turn as Ross went on to victory.  Webster finished second ahead of Vige, Crain and William Fogle.

Josh Jacobo went flag to flag in winning the four car, 20 lap Wingless Gas Sprint Main Event.  On July 15th, Pure Stocks, Mini Stocks, Mini Trucks, Micro Sprints and Wingless Gas Sprints are all back in action again.  Gates open at 5:00 PM with the first race at 7:00 PM.  General Admission is $8.00, Juniors (7-12) and Seniors are $5.00 and children 6 and under are free.  For further information, go to www.orlandraceway.org.
