Hughes, Clymens, Garner Antioch Speedway Winners

Antioch, CA...Darrell Hughes II grabbed the victory in the 25 lap Northern All Stars A Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The third generation racer was coming off of a strong second place finish in a big race at Southern Oregon Speedway, and this was his first visit of the season to Antioch. Hughes had to earn this one as he held off the challenges of four time champion Troy Foulger in the Bill Bowers owned Modified. Trent Wentworth had another strong showing with a third place finish ahead of title contender Raymond Lindeman. Past Hanford and Watsonville champion Brian Cass finished fifth. Cass won his heat race ahead of Wentworth, while five time champion Scott Busby won his heat in front of point leader Carl Berendsen II, who was debuting a new car.

Trevor Clymens continues to gain ground on the point lead following his third 20 lap B Modified feature win. Clymens is making up for missing a race, and he is currently the hottest driver in the division. He also won his heat race ahead rookie Shane DeVolder. Clymens drove a good race to win the Main Event as he took the lead with five laps to go. "I must say, it was the most fun I have had in a long time, " Trevor admitted. "Best door to door racing so far thanks to K.C. Keller."

The win was even more gratifying to Clymens considering his car had some damage, "We started the night with a hard hit in Turn 1 at the start of the heat race, " Clymens explained. "It broke the left front spindle and ripped the upper shock mount off the chassis. Drove the wheels off of it to take the win. We started the main in 4th with no front shock. Still, we made it to the winner's circle for win #3 and my first big check. Huge thank you to everyone that kept the car on the track last night and sponsors that keep it at the track every week."

Shane DeVolder matched his career best effort with a second finish ahead of point leader Al Johnson, double division racer Danny Jones and Walter Harper. K.C. Keller won the other heat ahead of Johnson.

Mark Garner took advantage of a front row starting spot to grab the victory in the 20 lap Limited Late Model feature. The 2015 Merced champion Garner became the fourth different winner in four races. Kimo Oreta and point leader Larry Damitz were also in the hunt, and Damitz finished second ahead of Oreta, previous feature winner Jim Freethy and John Evans. Two time division champion and all time win leader Mike Gustafson won his heat ahead of Freethy, while Damitz won his heat ahead of Garner.

Shawn Conde made his first Antioch visit since play day, and he was glad that he did. The Top 10 ranked Watsonville competitor drove to his first Winged 360 Sprint Car 25 lap Main Event victory. Stephen Ingraham made his first appearance of the season and held off Art McCarthy for a second place finish. McCarthy didn't add much to his point lead as rival Billy Aton finished fourth. Matt Barber made his first appearance at the speedway and finished fifth. Zack Lynsky won his heat race ahead of Barber, while Jarrett Soares won his heat race ahead of Ingraham.

Jason McIntosh earned the victory in the 20 lap Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event. McIntosh got his start in the division at Antioch about 15 years ago. This was his first appearance of the season, and it was a good one as he held off Shannon Newton for the victory. Newton enjoyed his best finis of the season in second. Point leader Jim Perry Jr. finished third ahead of son Jimmy Perry III and James East. Marcus Smith got back into his #28 car and won his heat race ahead of Perry III, while Perry Jr. won his heat over Burd.

Rookie Guy Ahlwardt became the first repeat winner in the Hobby Stock division. The current point leader scored the 20 lap Main Event victory ahead of Stock Car veteran Danny Jones, who also had a Top 3 finish in the B Modified race. Past Street Stock champion Rob Waldrop held off Micheal Cooper for the third place finish as Robert Niven rouned out the Top; 5. Cameron Swank won another heat race ahead of incoming point runner up Natalie Perry. Jones battled Ahlwardt to win the other heat race.

Racing continues next week with Late Models and Winged 360 Sprints headlining the show along with Wingless Spec Sprints, A Modifieds, B Modifieds and Dwarf Cars. For further information, check out www.antiochspeedway.com
