Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models Headline
Six Division Show At Antioch Speedway

Antioch, CA...The solid start to the 2016 season at Antioch Speedway continues. The track is coming off of back to back 70 plus car fields, and promoter John M. Soares has another good program lined up for this Saturday night. Headlining the event will be the exciting DIRTcar Late Models and Winged 360 Sprint Cars along with Wingless Spec Sprints, A Modifieds, B Modifieds and Dwarf Cars. It is sure to be another show the fans won't want to miss.

The Late Models are coming off of a strong turnout last time that saw Clay Daly make a rare appearance and come home with another victory. Daly is currently in the Pacific Northwest assuming the Crew Chief duties for the two car Jenner Racing Team in the Wild West Modified Series. It is anticipated that defending champion Jeff Decker and 2014 champion Richard Papenhausen will be among the competitors this week. Papenhausen holds a slight advantage over Decker in the latest point standings.

Another team likely to be there will be the two car team of Paul Guglielmoni and Terry Kuntz. Paul actually owns a few different race cars and is known for bringing at least two of them to the shows that he supports. Also expected this week will be Top 5 competitor Chester Kniss, who is very much in the hunt for his first Late Model feature win. Recently married David Newquist currently sits third in the standings and is anticipated this week along with Dennis Sousa, Danny Malfatti, Mike Hynes and others.

The Winged Sprint Car division has been wide open, and you never know who might show up for a race on any given week. There are four different winners in four races, and while point championship contenders Billy Aton and Art McCarthy are two of those winners, other wins have been one earned by Koen Show and Shawn Conde. The lure of a good purse and a fast racetrack is bringing Sprint Car drivers from several different tracks to the John Soares prepared three-eighths mile clay oval.

There were 14 competitors in action last time out, and hard chargers like Dan Gonderman and Rick Brophy have been strong supporters for the season so far. Other drivers to watch for this week include reigning champion Shawn Arriaga, Sprint Car and open wheel veteran Burt Foland Jr., Ricky Brophy, Adam McCarthy and newcomer Tim Burcher.

Not surprisingly, Jim Perry Jr continues to pace the field in the Wingless Spec Sprint division. It may be difficult keeping this open wheel veteran from winning his second division championship. He has already won over 40 Main Events in this division in his career to put him at the top of the all time win list. Perry is coming off of a Top 3 finish last time out in a race won by Jason McIntosh. Joining these two drivers on the winner's list are two time champion Dan Gonderman and title hopeful Marcus Smith.

Smith had to get back behind the wheel of his #28 car for the most recent race and was a heat race winner. There is a good battle in the standings as longtime division competitor Rick Panfili, Shannon Newton, defending champion Kyle Bakkie and James East are others in the championship hunt. Though not in the hunt for the points right now, third generation racer Jimmy Perry III should not be counted out in the quest for victory.

The A Modified division has been a very intriguing contest. We know that we have three drivers who are trying to win the championship at this moment. There is the five time champion Scott Busby, who many might think is the guy to beat, but 2014 champion Carl Berendsen II is the point leader and Raymond Lindeman is also very much in the hunt. Berendsen has more reason to come out fast this week in his new car as he is still looking for his first career victory in this division. Carl has been a hard charger through the years and was a feature winner and two time point runner up in Street Stocks before getting into the Modified.

Because drivers will drift in and out as they are also competing for All Star Modified Tour points, you never know who might show up next, but rookie Bobby Montalvo, Sean O'Gara, John McDougall and Norman Boeck are among the drivers you might see this week. Trent Wentworth is coming off of another strong Top 5 finish last time out and is another driver to keep an eye on in the race for victory.

Victory is something that B Modified point leader Al Johnson would very much like. He had a Top 5 finish last week and has three second place finishes so far this year, but he can feel the presence of three time feature winner Trevor Clymens climbing up the point ladder. Trevor is coming off of another feature win on a night in which his suspension was hurt from a crash in the heat race that he won earlier that evening. Clymens may be the driver to beat this week, but after his second runner up finish last week, rookie Shane DeVolder will be hoping to get his first win.

Double division racer Danny Jones enjoyed a solid fourth place effort and is also not far behind DeVolder in a good race for third in the standings. K.C. Keller gave it a good run and battled Clymens for several laps early in last week's feature. He was also a heat race winner. Lonnie Leonard, Lloyd Cline, Randy Brown and Ron Brown are other drivers you might see this week, and you never know when reigning champion Fred Ryland may show up for another chance at a win. Ryland recently picked up wins at Southern Oregon Speedway and Siskiyou Motor Speedway.

Not to be forgotten in the mix is the always exciting Dwarf Car division. Kevin Miraglio has yet to win, and yet he has stretched his point advantage over one time feature winner Mike Corsaro to 40 points. It's still very early in the game, and Kevin hasn't had his dose of bad luck yet. He is hoping he can get his first Antioch feature win before that ever happens. Another driver looking for a feature win who may just get it is third place point runner Tim Reeder. Reader had a year last year in which a lot of things went wrong, but he always came back enthusiastically and gave it his best. He seems poised for that big moment to happen this year.  Third generation racer Buddy Kniss is balancing a  baseball career with Dwarf Car racing, and he currently has 78 year old Charlie Correia just two points behind him in the battle for fourth. Consider that Buddy is a teenager in high school and Correia has been racing for many years. Charlie is one of the longest running Dwarf Car drivers in the state of California and raced a Super Modified for years before that.

Though there are drivers who have come and gone in this division, the support of past Hobby Stock champion Robert Coe, Josh Miller, open wheel veteran Brian Gray and David Michael Rosa has helped keep the car count in double digits this year. Wade Humphrey is recovering from a broken leg suffered in a flip in the last Main Event, which was won by Thomas Leiby. As for Humphrey, it appears as if he will get back behind the wheel of his car once he is able to.

The racing is sure to be exciting at Antioch Speedway this Saturday night, and the divisions will include the Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Wingless Spec Sprints, A Modifieds, B Modifieds and Dwarf Cars. Saturday Night Racing Returns To Merced Speedway

Merced, CA...The fair time break is over, and Saturday night racing returns to Merced Speedway with an exciting four division program that will be headlined by the IMCA Sport Modified division along with the Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks and the Valley Sportsman division. Considering the car counts being offered up by Sport Modifieds and Hobby Stocks this season, it should be another great show.

A check of the point standings in the IMCA Sport Modified ranks shows that just 19 points separate point leader Rick Diaz from Steve Stone, Mike Drake, defending champion Josh Hensley and Tim Elias. Diaz is the only one of the group with more than one feature victory. In fact, only Stone has a feature victory of the remaining Top 5 drivers in the standings. Stone is just one point behind Diaz while two time Top 3 finisher Drake is just seven points out of the lead in the George Medeiros car.

The racing has been fast in this division all year long, and there are some tough competitors such as sixth ranked Gary Tucker and Chris Falkenberg who could score a victory at any point this season. Alex Odishoo has been quietly creeping up the point ladder and should not be counted out. After his Top 3 season last year, Dwayne Short holds on to a Top 10 ranking and is another driver hoping to get his first feature win this year.

Of the young guns in the division, second generation racer Tanner Thomas is doing the best. Tanner is just six points out of the Top 10 right now in 11th and currently tops the rookies in this division. More importantly, under the guidance of his Street Stock championship winning father Darren Thomas, Tanner is learning the ropes and doing a good job. A full field of Sport Modifieds is expected for this race, and you never know who may show up next. Diaz may be the man to beat, but there are several drivers out there nipping at his heels.

The Hobby Stock division has been an interesting affair. At this point, we've had five different winners in six races.  The only repeat winner is multi time division champion Raul Rodriguez Sr., who is not really chasing points this year. Dexter Long has finished as high as second in his sophomore season, and he finds himself 13 points behind one time feature winner Michael Shearer, who has been running strong most of the season. Last week was a speed bump for Shearer as he had his worst night of the season.

Kristie Shearer took a night off during the fair, and IMCA Modified veteran Tommy Bostic handled the driving duties well in his top five finish. Robbie Loquaci did equally well as the past Chowchilla Mini Stock champion finished third in the Main Event and holds down on fourth in the points by just three tallies over Cody Dean.

Being on the winner's list is something the drivers are shooting for, and that list grew to over a dozen drivers last season. On the list so far in addition to M. Shearer and Rodriguez is Ben Louis II, Ted Stofle Classic winner Phil Vaughn and two time Watsonville champion Terry Campion. Long seems poised to finally get his first win, but hard chargers such as K. Shearer, Loquaci, Dean, Garrett Corn, reigning champion Kevin Joaquin and Austin Van Hoff are others you'll have to keep an eye on.

The Mini Stock division has a dominant force in its midst with 2014 champion Chris Corder. Corder has taken the off time as an opportunity to go down to Watsonville Speedway and pick up a pair of feature wins. He opened the season with three feature victories this year, but it was Jason Lewis snapping his win streak last time out. Remarkably, Corder only holds a three point lead over Joy Alger in the battle for the championship, and one of the drivers we tabbed as a driver who could be a threat to Corder this year, James Stockton, is only 10 points out of the lead. Stockton had a runner up finish last time out, and he leads his teammate Mike Germait by just two points in the battle for third.

Rookie Destiny Carter has done a good job of ranking fifth in the standings, but the teenager is taking a vacation that will take her out of the action for a few weeks. This is the opportunity for Paul Laoretti to try and climb back into the Top 5. Laoretti has a pair of Top 5 feature finishes this year. The Mini Stock division continues to do okay this season, and several drivers have taken this division as an opportunity to get into racing at Merced Speedway. Having sold her Hobby Stock, Jennifer Corder managed to make a trade and get back into the division in which she ranked second in the standings back in 2014. She should not be counted out along with teammate Alger in the quest to join her brother Chris Corder on the winner's list.

In the Valley Sportsman division, Kenny Birdsong has won a pair of Main Events. Birdsong is driving the Rod Poor tribute car. A recent tabulation of cars in the area finds over a dozen cars are ready or close to ready, and that means that seeing an increase in car count is a possibility. At the moment, Birdsong leads season opener winner Jeff  Bristow by just four points. Mike Friesen, Eric Seeley, Tim Prothro and Mike Palmberg are other racers that we've seen so far this year, and we've heard that Jeannie Canepa-Reveal may be next to debut her car. The more cars the merrier as this division is a fun division to watch.

To recap, racing comes back this Saturday night at Merced Speedway with a four division show that will be headlined by the IMCA Sport Modifieds and Hobby Stocks. These two divisions alone could have enough of a car count to require B Mains in both classes. Add the Mini Stock and Sportsman divisions to the mix, and you have a show that you won't want to miss. Davis, Armstrong, Webster Orland Raceway Winners

Orland, CA...June 4 & 12...Like The Phoenix, Orland Raceway has returned from the ashes under new promoter Rich Hood, a long time Hobby Stock competitor at the track who did not want to see racing come to an end.  Two events have been held on the one-fifth mile dirt oval on June 4th and June 12th.  Winners of the recent Sunday race included Jason Armstrong (Pure Stocks), Dan Webster (Mini Trucks), Tom Davis (Mini Stocks), Jeromie Crismon (600 Mini Sprints) and Rob Baker (250 Outlaw Karts).  A week earlier, they opened the track with a Saturday night show that saw Steve Martin (Pure Stocks), Olin Crane (Mini Trucks), Tom Davis (Mini Stocks), Jackie Whitson Jr. (250 Outlaw Karts) and Robert  Baker (600 Mini Sprints) collecting the victories.

The recent Sunday race saw Pure Stock car count double from the opener.  Past Orland champion Steve Martin and current Top 5 Chico competitor Jeremy Langenderfer won their heat races.  Martin had his sights set on repeating his season opening victory, but he was denied by Placerville Stock Car veteran Jason Armstrong.  After winning the Hardtop race at Roseville in a clean sweep a night earlier, Armstrong jumped into his Pure Stock and won the Orland race ahead of Martin and newcomer Mel Byers.  Chris Barnett brought it home fourth ahead of Cody Bundy, Earl Adams, Langenderfer and Doug Winegarden. At the Saturday opener, Martin swept the heat and Main Event.  Bud Gilmore chased him across the line in second as Bundy and Langenderfer rounded out the field.  Last season, the Hobby Stocks had a good field at Orland, and it looks like the car count will continue to rise as the season goes on.

Another of the stronger classes at the track is the Mini Trucks.  Coming off of his win in the opener, "Rollin" Olin Crane won the heat race on Sunday, but his Main Event ended in a disappointing DNF.  2015 point runnerup Dan Webster was back in winning form as he held off past champion Ross Vige to win the Main Event.  A Top 5 competitor last year, Nathan Skaggs finished third ahead of William Fogle, Mike Chase and defending champion Keith Ross.  Ross won the heat race a week earler but again had bad luck in the Main Event.  It was Crane holding off Skaggs to get the feature win that night.  Fogle was third ahead of Ross and Jeremy Callan.

2014 Champion Tom Davis has thus far been the star of the Mini Stocks as the same five drivers have competed in both events.  Davis won the most recent feature ahead of Jeff Bennett and Robert Hunt.  Past champion John Kirkpatrick won the heat race and finished fourth ahead of Jeff Hammond in the main.  Davis won both the heat race and Main Event at the opener ahead of Hunt.  Bennett drove Olin Crane's #23 car to a third ahead of Hammond and Kirkpatrick.

While the track establishes car counts in the 250's and 600's, the two classes are running together in the Main Event.  Rob Baker won the 250 heat race on Sunday and topped the Main Event ahead of Andrew Love, Ronnie Heyer and reigning champion Jess Garland.  Reigning 600's champion Jeromie Crisman was his division's top feature finisher ahead of Chico Sprint Car racer Rowdy McClennon.  The opener had a stronger Kart count as 2015 point runnerup Jackie Whitson Jr. and Jackie Whitson Sr. won heat races.  The 600 heat went to Robert Baker.  Whitson Jr. actually finished ahead of both classes for the 250 Main Event win.  Dave McKinnon was second ahead of Whitson Sr., Robert Baker, Ronnie Heyer, Garland, Andrew Love and Rusty Hensley.  The 600's feature went to Robert Baker ahead of McClennon and Marty Plumb.

The crew is using an off week to make more improvements to the track as things have been coming together steadily since Hood won the contract for the raceway back in mid May.  On June 25th, racing continues with Pure Stocks, Mini Trucks, Mini Stocks, 600's and 250's all back in action.  For further information, check out www.orlandraceway.org.

Armstrong Becomes Fourth Hardtop
Feature Winner At Roseville

Roseville, CA...June 11...After two rainouts on their scheduled pavement races, the California Hardtop Association finally ran their first pavement race Saturday night at All American Speedway in Roseville.  At times it has been a challenge for the CHA to get racers to run the pavement, but eight competitors were in action at the quarter-mile oval.  When the checkered flag flew on the 20 lap Main Event, it was second generation racer Jason Armstrong completing the clean sweep with his victory aboard his Eastern Hardtop.

The Hardops got a rare opportunity to qualify on the clock, and J. Armstrong's 16.066 bested his father Dennis Armstrong's 16.566 by about half a second.  Bill McLaughlin timed in next at 16.672. The Armstrong's did battle in the four lap Trophy Dash with Jason just beating Dennis back to the line for the win.  J. Armstrog followed that up with an eight lap heat race win ahead of McLaughlin.  After a little bit of damage in a heat race tangle with John Turner, club president John Philbert got his car back together and had a good showing.  However, J. Armstrong was just a bit quicker as he impressed with his 20 lap victory.  Philbert enjoyed his season best effort in second, and recent Chico winner Ken Clifford grabbed the final podium finish in third.  Turner managed to grab a checkerd flag in fourth ahead of D. Armstrong and McLaughlin.  Ron Ruiz fell out of the feature early to finish last, and two time winner Jason Clifford scratched before the Main Event. Once again, Ken Clifford offered up trophies to the Top 3 drivers in the feature.

The Hardtops have some big races on the schedule, not the least of which is the Chet Thomson Memorial race on September 10th at Antioch.  Antioch will be their next race on June 25th.

Winged Sprint Cars Return To
Antioch Speedway Saturday Night

Antioch, CA...In case you haven't noticed, the Winged 360 Sprint Car division continues to grow at Antioch Speedway.  More good things are anticipated when the division returns this week.  Last week, the Northern All Stars Sprint Cars produced a 14 car field for their fourth round of racing.  Promoter John M. Soares made the commitment to establish his own class three years ago, and the class saw it's schedule double this year.  So far, the drivers have responded by bringing their cars to the fast three-eighths mile clay oval and putting on a show.

At playday in March, Watsonville competitor Shawn Conde tested his car at the track.  Back at his home track, he is one of the Top 10 point runners, and he decided it was time to go back to Antioch.  He was glad that he did after winning the Main Event.  It was his first win and came ahead of a career best second place performance from Stephan Ingraham.  Conde's win makes him the fourth winner in four races in the competitive division.

Even with the visiting drivers who show up from race to race, title contenders Art McCarthy and Billy Aton continue to make their presence known at the front of the pack.  Both drivers, along with Koen Shaw, count themselves among the feature winners.  2007 champion McCarthy picked up a third place finish last week, but Aton wasn't far behind him in fourth.  Because of the close finish between the two, McCarthy only leads Aton by four points heading into this week's race.

Back in fifth, making his first visit of the season last week, was Matt Barber.  Matt turned in a nice effort and got that finish ahead of a past Antioch feature winner, Adam McCarthy.  Adam has attempted three starts this year, and this was his best finish yet.  Knowing his competitive nature, it won't be long before he is battling his father Art for a win.  Zack Lynsky has come up through the ranks of Spec Sprints at Petaluma and Antioch.  He opened the night with a heat race win last week before his seventh place finish.

Back in eighth was reigning Sprint Car champion Shawn Arriaga.  The third generation racer got off to a late start this season, but he is now just eight points behind third place Dan Gonderman and two behind Rick Brophy for fourth.  With 2014 champion Chris Magoon just six points behind Arriaga, it's a close battle for third in the standings.  Magoon was tenth last week, behind open wheel veteran Burt Foland Jr.  Completing the order was Rick Brophy, heat race winner Jarrett Soares and Dan Gonderman.

There is plenty of reason for Antioch Speedway Sprint Car fans to be excited.  Not only is the Winged 360 Sprint Car class getting stronger, the Wingless Spec Sprints are also doing well.  Both classes are on this Saturday night's schedule, making this a show the fans will want to see.  For further information, check out www.antiochspeedway.com.

Papenhausen Leads DIRTcar Late Models Into Antioch

Antioch, CA...Antioch Speedway continues to offer up UMP DIRTcar Late Model racing to the fans, and the fourth event of the season takes place this Saturday night.  Promoter John M. Soares saw his opportunity to add this division to his roster in 2014 after Petaluma Speedway elected to drop the class.  After a phone call to Promoter Rick Faeth to get his blessing, Soares booked a schedule for 2014.

The championship was won by division veteran Richard Papenhausen.  Papenhausen continued to be a dominant force on the scene last season, but his absence from the Summer Nationals in June due to a back injury ultimately cost him the title to Jeff Decker.  The title came with a $2500 prize for Decker, who won the UMP DIRTcar Western Regional title along with his second Antioch championship.

Decker is a well decorated Late Model champion over the past decade and a half with multiple titles at both Watsonville and Petaluma.  Though he's still searching for his first win of the season, he only finds himself eight points behind Papenhausen.  Could he grab his first win of the season this week?

The record will show that Papenhausen, Bobby Hogge IV and Clay Daly have won at Antioch so far this year.  Hogge actually grabbed a win from Papenhausen in the opener as the two hit lapped traffic with two laps remaining.  Daly, who is a champion in Late Models in California, rarely appears at Antioch, but his appearance last time resulted in a victory.

Two drivers hoping for their first Antioch wins are third ranked David Newquist and Antioch Speedway veteran Chester Kniss.  A race last month was canceled to allow drivers to come to Newquist's wedding, and he'd love to add to the celebration with a victory.  Kniss has won features in Limited Late Models and Dirt Modifieds at Antioch.  Currently Newquist trails Decker by ten points with Kniss 18 points behind Decker in fourth.

The last time out, the track had the House Car in the field again with past Late Model champion Andy Obertello behind the wheel.  Andy would finish fourth that night.  He wrapped up the 2015 season last September with an impressive win after a good battle with Hogge and Papenhausen.  Hogge was at the most recent race and settled for third behind Troy Foulger's second place finish.

One driver anticipated this Saturday night is two time Petaluma champion Paul Guglielmoni.  Paul won one of the more entertaining races last season and was second at Antioch in 2014.  Paul has multiple cars in his stables, and teammate Terry Kuntz could also be among the competitors this week.

Other competitors to watch for this week include last season's top rookie and third ranked driver, Danny Malfatti, Mike Hynes and Dennis Souza.  Late Models remain a popular form of racing for the fans, and Antioch is one of the few tracks in California that still runs them.  For further information, go to www.antiochspeedway.com.

18th Wingless Spec Sprint Season Continues
Saturday At Antioch Speedway

Antioch, CA...Antioch Speedway is where the Wingless Spec Sprint movement began back in 1999.  Seventeen years later, the division is still an important part of the track's Northern All Stars Series.  Promoter John M. Soares had the foresight to adjust the rules prior to last season in an effort to get the cost down on the cars.  Though car count initially took a hit, the numbers have doubled from this time last year.

The competition is just as fierce as ever.  The four events run so far have produced four different winners.  On the list are last week's winner, Jason McIntosh, 2015 "Rookie Of The Year" Marcus Smith, two time champion Dan Gonderman and current point leader Jim Perry Jr.  The way things have been going, it won't be a surprise to see another new winner this week.

If it's a repeat winner, chances are it could be Perry.  With over 40 wins in his career, Perry tops the list of winners in this division at the track.  Like his son Jimmy, who is #3 on the win list, Jim is a past champion in this division.  The Perry Racing Team builds their own cars and engines from the ground up and is known for their quality work.

Beating the elder Perry for the championship will be a tall order, and right now it is ageless veteran Roy Fisher taking up the chase in the #2 position.  Fisher had raced motorcycles for years before getting into this division 16 years ago.  A hard crash about a decade ago sidelined Roy, but after time to recuperate, he was back behind the wheel and winning races again.  He is 16 points behind Perry going into this week.

The points are close from second place Fisher to eighth place Brandon Burd as 20 points separate them. James East used his fifth place finish last week to slip past division original Rick Panfili for third in the standings, just six behind Fisher.  Panfili has a second place finish this season, but he is coming off of a disappointing effort last week.  With Shannon Newton collecting his best finish is second last week, he is only four points behind Panfili for fourth.

The Wingless Spec Sprints are still essentially what they were when they started in 1999. They are Sprint Cars for the  racer on a budget.  They still run a 360 cast iron motor with a two barrel carburetor.  They are self starting race cars, which assures the fans that they won't slow down the program if a red flag flies.  However, the racing is fast and competitive.  The lack of a wing puts more emphasis on the drivers to go out there and do their thing.

Last season, the rules adjustments sent some teams scrambling and saw the division hit an all time low of five cars.  They are coming off a 15 car show last week, and they had a season high of 17 cars earlier this year.  More cars are out there, and car count continues to rise.  Wingless Spec Sprints remain an entertaining part of the program at Antioch Speedway, and this week's show is sure to entertain.  For further information, go to www.antiochspeedway.com

Hughes, Clymens, Garner Antioch Speedway Winners

Antioch, CA...Darrell Hughes II grabbed the victory in the 25 lap Northern All Stars A Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The third generation racer was coming off of a strong second place finish in a big race at Southern Oregon Speedway, and this was his first visit of the season to Antioch. Hughes had to earn this one as he held off the challenges of four time champion Troy Foulger in the Bill Bowers owned Modified. Trent Wentworth had another strong showing with a third place finish ahead of title contender Raymond Lindeman. Past Hanford and Watsonville champion Brian Cass finished fifth. Cass won his heat race ahead of Wentworth, while five time champion Scott Busby won his heat in front of point leader Carl Berendsen II, who was debuting a new car.

Trevor Clymens continues to gain ground on the point lead following his third 20 lap B Modified feature win. Clymens is making up for missing a race, and he is currently the hottest driver in the division. He also won his heat race ahead rookie Shane DeVolder. Clymens drove a good race to win the Main Event as he took the lead with five laps to go. "I must say, it was the most fun I have had in a long time, " Trevor admitted. "Best door to door racing so far thanks to K.C. Keller."

The win was even more gratifying to Clymens considering his car had some damage, "We started the night with a hard hit in Turn 1 at the start of the heat race, " Clymens explained. "It broke the left front spindle and ripped the upper shock mount off the chassis. Drove the wheels off of it to take the win. We started the main in 4th with no front shock. Still, we made it to the winner's circle for win #3 and my first big check. Huge thank you to everyone that kept the car on the track last night and sponsors that keep it at the track every week."

Shane DeVolder matched his career best effort with a second finish ahead of point leader Al Johnson, double division racer Danny Jones and Walter Harper. K.C. Keller won the other heat ahead of Johnson.

Mark Garner took advantage of a front row starting spot to grab the victory in the 20 lap Limited Late Model feature. The 2015 Merced champion Garner became the fourth different winner in four races. Kimo Oreta and point leader Larry Damitz were also in the hunt, and Damitz finished second ahead of Oreta, previous feature winner Jim Freethy and John Evans. Two time division champion and all time win leader Mike Gustafson won his heat ahead of Freethy, while Damitz won his heat ahead of Garner.

Shawn Conde made his first Antioch visit since play day, and he was glad that he did. The Top 10 ranked Watsonville competitor drove to his first Winged 360 Sprint Car 25 lap Main Event victory. Stephen Ingraham made his first appearance of the season and held off Art McCarthy for a second place finish. McCarthy didn't add much to his point lead as rival Billy Aton finished fourth. Matt Barber made his first appearance at the speedway and finished fifth. Zack Lynsky won his heat race ahead of Barber, while Jarrett Soares won his heat race ahead of Ingraham.

Jason McIntosh earned the victory in the 20 lap Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event. McIntosh got his start in the division at Antioch about 15 years ago. This was his first appearance of the season, and it was a good one as he held off Shannon Newton for the victory. Newton enjoyed his best finis of the season in second. Point leader Jim Perry Jr. finished third ahead of son Jimmy Perry III and James East. Marcus Smith got back into his #28 car and won his heat race ahead of Perry III, while Perry Jr. won his heat over Burd.

Rookie Guy Ahlwardt became the first repeat winner in the Hobby Stock division. The current point leader scored the 20 lap Main Event victory ahead of Stock Car veteran Danny Jones, who also had a Top 3 finish in the B Modified race. Past Street Stock champion Rob Waldrop held off Micheal Cooper for the third place finish as Robert Niven rouned out the Top; 5. Cameron Swank won another heat race ahead of incoming point runner up Natalie Perry. Jones battled Ahlwardt to win the other heat race.

Racing continues next week with Late Models and Winged 360 Sprints headlining the show along with Wingless Spec Sprints, A Modifieds, B Modifieds and Dwarf Cars. For further information, check out www.antiochspeedway.com

Tarlton, Hogge, Jones Win Ocean Speedway Features

Watsonville, C A...June 10...Past Taco Bravo Sprint Car champion Tommy Tarlton won the 30 lap Sprint Car Main Event Friday night at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville. Tarlton made his winning move around Buddy Kofoid on lap 18 and pulled away to about a straightaway advantage by time the checkered flag flew. Reigning champion Justin Sanders used his Trophy Dash win over Dustin Golobic to grab the pole for the Main Event. Sanders led for ten laps before a yellow flag flew. It was Kofold taking the lead on the restart, but he would slip back a few spots as Tarlton passed him for the lead on lap 18. At that point, Brad Furr took over second, but he watched as the flying Tarlton slowly pulled away. Tarlton scored the impressive victory ahead of Furr, Jeremy Chisum, Kofoid, Koen Shaw, Dustin Golobic, Kyler Shaw, Lucas Ashe, Jason Chisum and Nelson. D. Golobic won his heat race just ahead of Sanders, and Furr prevailed in his heat race ahead of Kofoid.

There's no getting around it. Bobby Hogge IV may be the best IMCA Modified racer in the state at the moment. After winning his heat race ahead of Austin Burke, the third generation leadfoot grabbed the lead on an early restart and continued to pull away to an eventual half lap lead over Alex Wilson. Many time champion Kenny Nott had second until being passed by A. Wilson on lap ten. Shortly after Wilson passed Nott, Jeff Decker also got by for third. However, Decker never really challenged the reigning IMCA State champion for second. At the checkered flag, it was Hogge prevailing ahead of A. Wilson, Decker, Nott, Brian Cass, Robert Marsh, Robert Dias, Raymond Keldsen, Kyle Bryan and Todd Hermasillo. A. Wilson won his heat race ahead of Marsh.

Shawn Jones won the 20 lap South Bay Dwarf Car Main Event. Kyle Jones led Shawn Jones for two laps before a red flag flew for Mark Biscardi. Shawn Jones made his move shortly after the restart and gained the lead. Nick Squatritto and Terre Rothweiler quickly moved into second and third. From deep in the pack, point leader David Teves found his way to fifth by lap ten. Teves moved by defending champion Gene "Punky" Pires for fourth on lap 11. Squatritto stayed with S. Jones down the stretch, but he could not make a move by. S. Jones won ahead of Squatritto. Teves made a last lap pass on Rothweiler for third as Rothweiler settled for fourth. Pires finished fifth ahead of Justin Yanez, Marty Weisler, Eric Weisler, Petaluma regular Chad Mathias and Joey Dale. Teves won his heat race ahead of Pires while Squatritto held off Dale to win his heat.

Point leader Jim DiGiovanni scored the victory in the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. The race saw Adriane DeSousa, Danny Roe and Justin McPherson all take turns leading before DiGiovanni made his winning pass on McPherson for the lead on lap 11. Once in front, DiGiovanni led the rest of the way for the victory. A lap 17 yellow flag for previous winner Igor Gandzjuk gave DeSousza the opportunity to pass McPherson for second, and she would finish there. Roe made a late pass for third as McPherson settled for fourth ahead of Paul Mulder, Joel Hannagan, Charlie Hunter, John Ferro and Grandzjuk. Dennis Simunovich won the heat race ahead of Roe, but he finished last in the ten car Main Event.

After winning the heat race ahead of Paul Laoretti, Chris Corder won the Mini Stock Main Event in impressive fashion with a last lap pass on race long leader Dennis Keldsen Jr. Keldsen raced into the early lead with Kelly Campanile settling into second a lap later. Corder started in the back and steadily worked his way forward. Corder took third from Amanda Daly on lap six and set about reeling in a three second advantage from Campanile. Campanile slowed with an overheating problem on lap 12 just as Corder caught her. She pitted, handing point leader Kate Beardsley third. Corder set a rapid pace and caught Keldsen at the white flag. Corder made his winning pass on the last lap to collect his second straight win. Keldsen settled for second ahead of K. Beardsley, Samantha Roberson, Bill Beardsley, Daly, Lucy Falkenberg, Campanile, Laoretti and Mark Fields.
