Forsberg Wins $5,000 Prize In Platinum Cup 
At Silver Dollar Speedway

Chico, CA...September 11...Andy Forsberg won the 30 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Silver Dollar Speedway. This was the annual Platinum Cup race that closed the Gold Cup weekend along with the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars. Forsberg had previously won over $4,000 for his victory in the Tyler Wolf Memorial back in August, and his Platinum Cup win netted him a $5,000 payday. Forsberg was driving his own car for this occasion and is the current Placerville Speedway champion. 

After the previous three nights of racing, the field was whittled down to the Top 24 drivers of the weekend, and high point earners Colby Copeland and Forsberg shared the front row for the feature race. Forsberg bolted into the lead at the start ahead of Copeland and Corey Day. A Lap 9 yellow flag waved for Shane Hopkins in Turn 4. Forsberg continued to lead Copeland and Day on the restart, and Dominic Scelzi took the fourth position as Kaleb Montgomery fell back several spots. Scelzi took third from Day on Lap 14 before a yellow flag waved for Landon Brooks in Turn 4. As Forsberg led the restart, Scelzi took second from Copeland. A yellow flag waved on Lap 17 for Brian McGahan Jr. Forsberg continued to lead the way ahead of Scelzi and Copeland. The final yellow flag waved on Lap 25 for Jesse Schlotfeldt. Scelzi provided the pressure, but Forsberg was up to the challenge as he brought it home to the big win. Copeland settled for third, followed by Day, Justyn Cox, Kyle Hirst, Ryan Robinson, Jayson Bright, Joel Myers Jr and Jodie Robinson.

With the points all factored in, only a B Main and C Main were run on Friday night with drivers competing for the final transfers into the show. The B Main would transfer eight drivers into the feature race to produce the 24 car field that would race on Saturday.

Jesse Schlotfeldt won the 20 lap B Main. The race was restarted three times. On the initial start, there was a crash that eliminated Angelo Cornet. Dustin Freitas was eliminated in the second restart attempt. Grant Champlin had the pole and raced into the early lead ahead of Schlotfeldt and Brock Lemley. A yellow flag waved on Lap 3 for Greg DeCaires V in Turn 4. With DeCaires out of the action, Champlin continued to lead Schlotfeldt on the restart as Drake Standley settled into third. Jayson Bright took third from Standley on Lap 7 and briefly got around Schlotfeldt for second a lap later. Schlotfeldt regained second on Lap 9, and the final yellow flag waved the following lap for Dawson Hammes, who retired at that point. As Champlin continued to lead the way on the restart, Bright again took second from Schlotfeldt. However, Schlotfeldt kept it close. Brian McGahan Jr was able to get fourth from Nick Larsen on Lap 13. On the 17th lap, Schlotfeldt slipped past Bright for second, and then he put the moves on Champlin for the lead on Lap 19 as Champlin fell back a couple of spots. Schlotfeldt was the happy winner ahead of Bright, McGahan, Champlin, Larsen, Lemley, Landon Brooks, final transfer Steven Ingraham, Standley and Mark Tabor Jr.

Steven Ingraham won the 12 lap C Main. He started on the pole and proceeded to lead all the way in victory. Much like the B Main, the race had multiple start attempts with Bret Barney and Anissa Curtice out before a lap could be completed. Larsen was an early second ahead of Ashlyn Rodriguez. There were three yellow flags on Lap 4, the first of which flew for Devan Whitlock in Turn 4. Whitlock was out at that point, and the restart attempt saw a yellow flag fly for Hammes in Turn 4. The next restart attempt was botched for a tangle involving Steven Snawder and RC Smith with both drivers eliminated. Ingraham led Larsen on the restart with Bright moving into third. Rodriguez regained that position briefly on lap 6, but Bright was back in third a lap later. Bright got by Larsen for second on Lap 11, and Ingraham won ahead of Bright, Larsen, Rodriguez and McGahan.

The Fall Nationals are next on the schedule on October 1st and 2nd. This will be a Winged 360 Sprint Car event with the Hobby Stocks running a show in support. For further information, go to www.silverdollarspeedway.com.


Terrell, Paul, Brown Win Sunday Night Special 
At Petaluma Speedway

Petaluma, CA...September 12...Bradley Terrell won the 30 lap Red Hawk Glass Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event Sunday night at Petaluma Speedway. The division ended up with headline status for the program as management announced two days prior that the Winged 360 Sprint Car portion of the program would be canceled due to scheduling concerns. Terrell's second win of the season had a bigger payday as the Wingless drivers were competing for the Winged Sprint Car purse.

Terrell and Daniel Whitley shared the front row and raced into first and second at the start. Nathan Schank ran third. The first 19 laps of the race went without incident, and Terrell built about a half-straightaway advantage over Whitley. A yellow flag flew for the only time on Lap 19. Terrell resumed command ahead of Whitley and Schank on the restart. Whitley kept it close down the stretch, but Terrell prevailed at the checkered flag. Schank was a solid third, followed by Marcus Hardina, new champion Nick Robfogal, Ethon Lanfri, David Lindt II, Sparky Howard, Sheldon Moniz and Nick Purdy. Terrell set the fast time on the 3/8 mile adobe oval with a Lap of 14.940, beating the 14.970 of Robfogal. The eight lap heat race wins went to Terrell and Hardina.

Michael Paul Jr won the 25 lap Butler Auto Glass IMCA Modified Main Event. This was a non-point show, and the win paid the multi-time champion $750. Anthony Slaney has repeated as division champion. 

Tim Yeager had the pole and led two laps ahead of Justin Yeager and Mitch Machado before his race came to an end for a yellow flag. Justin Yeager led the restart with Michael Paul Jr making a big move into second ahead of Machado. Michelle Paul slipped past Machado for third on Lap 3 with husband Michael taking the lead a lap later. Michelle Paul took second from Justin Yeager on Lap 12. There were two yellow flags during the final 10 laps, but Michael Paul Jr still maintained command and brought it home to victory ahead of Michelle Paul, Justin Yeager, Machado, Garrett Brady, Justin Zwicker, William Lage and Tim Yeager. Tim Yaeger won both the first and second eight lap heat races. Jim Weiler scratched prior to the Main Event.

Tom Brown won the 20 lap Jake's Performance Hobbies Mini Stock Main Event. This was the sixth win of the season for Brown, who wrapped up his second championship. He became the first two-time champion in this division in 15 years.

JB Hagemann led a lap over Tony Quinonez before Quinonez got by. Brown followed into the second, and a yellow flag waved on Lap 3. Brown took the lead on the restart as Quinonez, Dana Gardner and Austin Lodin battled for second. By the sixth lap, Brown held a straightaway advantage over second, but that lead was wiped out by a yellow flag on Lap 10. Brown maintained his lead on the restart ahead of Lodin and Gardner. The final yellow flag waved on Lap 15. Brown resumed command on the restart ahead of Lodin and Gardner. Brown pulled away to about a half-straightaway advantage over Austin Lodin in victory. Gardner was about a half-lap behind Brown in third and just ahead of Sophie Shelley. Casey Monahan settled for fifth, followed by William Fogle, Quinonez, Hagemann, Benito Gomez and Michael Lodin. Brown and Austin Lodin were the eight lap heat race winners.

Next on the schedule will be the 10th Annual Adobe Cup race for the Winged 360 Sprint Cars. The Jay's Mobile Welding Service Super Stocks will also be on the card for the Bob McCoy Memorial race. For further information, go to www.petaluma-speedway.com.


Tanner Triumphs In Cameron James Memorial 
At Southern Oregon Speedway

White City, Oregon...September 11...Joey Tanner won the 30 lap CD Architects Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. This was Massey Construction night at the races, and the race was announced as the Cameron James Memorial a week earlier with $4,000 going to the winner among a greatly increased purse. The multi-time Willamette Speedway champion returned after missing two races and grabbed the big victory, but he fell three points shy of overtaking Bob Dees for the track championship. For Dees, this was his second title in the class.

Incoming point leader John David Duffie and Dees shared the front row for the race. Dees raced into the lead at the start ahead of Duffie and Tanner. Tanner raced past Duffie for second on Lap 3. Both Duffie and Jody Tanner were eliminated on Lap 4, and Joey Tanner took the lead from Dees a lap later as Rob Mayea settled into third. Maya took second from Dees on Lap 7 as recent Willamette Clair Cup winner Tomas Hunziker settled into fourth. Previous feature winner Rich McCoy took fourth from Hunziker on Lap 19 with a yellow flag waving moments later. Joey Tanner continued to lead the restart ahead of Mayea as McCoy took third from Dees. Joey Tanner continued to pull away from Mayea and held about a straightaway advantage by the time the race ended. Mayea collected $1,500 for second. McCoy was a solid $1,000 third with Dees a lead lap fourth, followed by Skipper Klimcheck, Hunziker, Cliff Massey, Jody Tanner and Duffie.

Despite the late announcement of the extra money for this race, they drew nine cars. Tanner easily set the fast time of 14.839, beating the 15.381 of Mayea. Joey Tanner and Mayea won the eight lap heat races. Joey Tanner won seven lap Crack The Whip race. That special race was sponsored by Rapp Racing and paid $350 to Tanner.

Enrique Jaime won the 20 lap World Famous Autos Limited Sprints Main Event. This was his first win in the class as he ended up second in the standings behind new champion Jake Wheeler.

Jaime jumped into the lead at the start ahead of Johnny Burke and Wheeler. Charlie Thompson retired on Lap 4, and Wheeler moved by Burke for second on Lap 7. By the 18th lap, Jaime held a half-straightaway advantage over Wheeler, and Jaime went on to win ahead of Wheeler, Burke, RJ McGahuey and Thompson. Wheeler set the fast time of 12.874, beating the 12.877 of Jaime. Wheeler also won the eight lap heat race with four lap Trophy Dash honors also going to Wheeler.

Dustin Knight won the 20 lap Rapp Racing Late Model Lites Main Event. This was the second win of the season for the past Modified and Pro Stock champion.  Charlie Eaton wrapped up the division championship.

Jim Cunningham led a lap before being passed by Rikki-Lynn Knight and Dustin Knight. Unfortunately for Rikki-Lynn Knight, she had problems and was out on Lap 5. Dustin Knight took over with Chris Salyer running in second ahead of David Marble. Salyer had problems on Lap 10 with Marble now second ahead of Eaton. Knight sped on to a straightaway margin of victory ahead of Marble. Eaton was a solid third, followed by Salyer, final lead lap finisher Cunningham, Steve Thompson, Rikki-Lynn Knight and Jesse Merriman. Marble was the fast qualifier at 16.671, beating the 16.703 of Salyer and the 16.795 of Cunningham. Salyer won the six lap heat race with the four lap Trophy Dash win going to Salyer as well.

David Steele won the 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event. This was his third win of the season, and it wrapped up his third division championship. Steele made it a clean sweep as he also won the four lap Trophy Dash, eight lap heat race and set the fast time, in all cases beating Yreka championship contender Ashtin Hedges, who ended up second in Medford points.

Hedges set the early pace ahead of Steele and Scott Yerges. Steele ran with Hedges and made it a battle before getting by on the ninth lap. Kristopher Mix was running in fourth at that point. Steele pulled away to a slight lead over Hedges, who was a half-lap ahead of third place Yerges. Mix settled for fourth, followed by Quintyn Ericks, Darrel Nelson Jr and Dylan Irving. The fast time for Steele was a 17.686, easily beating the 18.637 of Hedges.

The second Championship Night event scheduled for this Saturday night will include the Sweet Tea Express IMCA Modifieds, Dusty's Transmissions IMCA Sport Modifieds, Outlaw Pro Stocks and Hornets. Management is mindful of the potential for a rainout and has added the Modified and Sport Modified divisions as part of the Cascade Wingless Sprint Car Challenge race on September 25th. However, this will be a non-point, extra money event regardless of whether the point finale gets rained out or not. IMCA Modifieds have been announced as competing for $2,000 to win that night. Torgerson, Pahule, Johnson, Vega Win At Dixon Speedway

Dixon, CA...September 11...Austin Torgerson won the 25 lap Wingless 600 Micro Sprint Main Event Saturday night at Dixon Speedway. Torgerson finished second to point leader Dan Mognaga in the eight lap Trophy Dash to earn a front row starting position in the Main Event. However, Mognaga raced into the lead at the start ahead of Torgerson and Jeffrey Pahule. A red flag waved on Lap 2 for Travis Sullivan's flip. Mognaga continued to lead Torgerson and Pahule on the restart, but a yellow flag flew on Lap 4 for a crash involving Brandon Shaw and Savannah Brown. Mognaga again led Torgerson and Pahule on the restart. On the sixth lap, Torgerson slipped past Mognaga for the lead. A Lap 13 yellow flag waved for a tangle involving Brandon Alvarado, Bryant Bell and Drew Laeber. Torgerson continued to lead the way over Mognaga and Pahule. The battle was for second with Pahule taking the position from Mognaga on Lap 21. A final yellow flag waved on Lap 23 with Taylor DeCarlo out of the event. Torgerson resumed command on the restart and brought it home to victory ahead of Pahule, Mognaga, Austin Wood, Brandon Riveira, Jarrett Heimlich, Randy Sims, Austin Taborski, Chris Parmley and Devin Osanna.

There were 22 Wingless 600s for the show, and Torgerson set the fast time on the 1/5 mile dirt oval at 11.602, beating the 11.606 of Pahule and the 11.623 of Brandon Shaw. Torgerson, Taborski and Sullivan picked up the 10 lap heat race wins.

Jeffrey Pahule won the 20 lap Super 600 Main Event. Pahule jumped into the lead at the start ahead of Jessica McManus and Brett McCulloch. A yellow flag waved for McManus after the first lap. Pahule led Anthony Lewis and McCullough on the restart. The flying Pahule had lapped the other three drivers by Lap 15. McManus made a big move on the final lap to take second from Lewis, who settled for third ahead of McCullough. Pahule set the fast time of 10.436, beating the 10.488 of Austin Torgerson. Pahule won the 10 lap heat race and made it a clean sweep with the four lap that Trophy Dash win. Torgerson scratched prior to the Trophy Dash.

Point leader Lucas Johnson won the 20 lap Restricted 600 Main Event. Johnson raced into the lead at the start ahead of Adriana DeMartini and Andrew Smith. The rapidly run race only had one yellow flag on Lap 11 with Kaiden Gowan retiring at that point. Johnson continued to lead DeMartini and Smith on the restart, but Smith took second from DeMartini on Lap 15. Smith kept it reasonably close, but Johnson prevailed in the end. DeMartini settled for third, followed by Nicholas Leonard Jr, Kyle Cravota, AJ Neilson, Cierra Wullenwaber, Mickelina Monico and Gowan. Smith set the fast time of 11.221, beating the 11.258 of Johnson. Johnson won both the 10 lap heat race and four lap Trophy Dash for the clean sweep.

Josiah Vega won the 20 lap Junior Sprint Main Event. Point leader Hayden Stepps had the pole and raced into the lead when the green flag fell, followed by Briggs Davis and Vega. Vega took second from Davis on Lap 4. Vito Cancilla briefly took third on Lap 6 before a yellow flag waved. Stepps continued to lead Vega and Cancilla on the restart, but Levi Osborne motored into third on Lap 8. A Lap 13 yellow flag waved. Stepps continued to lead Davis and Osborne on the restart, and the final yellow flag waved on lap 17 as Jackson Tardiff saw his race come to an unfortunate end. Vega began to pressure Stepps for the lead on the restart with Osborne holding onto third. On Lap 19, Vega made his winning maneuver into the lead. Once in front, Vega brought it home to the well-earned victory, followed by Hayden Stepps, Osborne, Cancilla, Davis, Heston Stepps, Isaac Salameh, Tardiff, Porter Zachary and Edward Oliveira. Hayden Stepps set the fast time of 12.584, beating the 12.706 of Vega. Tardiff won the 10 lap heat race and the four lap Trophy Dash.

Thompson Scores Sprint Car Win At Cottage Grove, 
Whistler Wins Modified/Sport Modified Race 

Cottage Grove, Oregon...September 11...Tyler Thompson won the 25 lap Winged 360 Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Cottage Grove Speedway. He became the seventh different winner in the eight races held this year. Thompson is the reigning division champion. With Garen Linder absent from this race, Thompson earned enough points to overtake Linder for the division championship.

With a big show happening in California, car count dwindled to six for this race, but TJ Richman scratched before the Main Event. Thompson had the pole and motored into the lead at the start ahead of Matt Hein and Kyle Alberding. Nate Ellertson dropped out on Lap 2. Thompson steadily pulled away from Hein and lapped everybody else on his way to victory. Hein settled for second ahead of Alberding, Brian Boswell and Ellertson. Thompson set the fast time of 10.972, beating the 11.057 of Alberding and the 11.097 of Hein. Hein won the eight lap heat race with Thompson claiming five lap Trophy Dash honors.

Ian Whistler won the special 25 lap IMCA Modified versus IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. The track pitted eight drivers from each division against each other in the feature race and tabulated overall points with the Modified division getting that win. Modified drivers claimed the Top 5 finishing positions. 

IMCA Sport Modified point leader Dustin Comer took the early lead ahead of Modified point leader Jake Mayden and Kevin Williamson. Williamson took second from Mayden on Lap 2 and gained the lead from Comer on the fourth circuit. Comer surrendered second to Mayden on Lap 6, but Mayden got passed by Whistler for second on Lap 9. Whistler set his sights on Williamson and made what proved to be his winning pass on Lap 17. A battle developed late in the race for second between Chad Groves and Williamson with Groves making the pass on the final lap to grab the position. Williamson settled for third ahead of Mayden, Paul Rea, Ray Bloom, Doug Coffman, Dustin Comer, Roy Kirk Jr and Trevor Points.

The two divisions ran their preliminaries separately, and Williamson set the fastest Modified time of 14.400, beating the 14.771 of Gus Cooper and the 14.777 of Whistler. Mayden won their eight lap heat race and six lap Trophy Dash. Points set the fastest Sport Modified time of 15.260, beating the 15.354 of Coffman. Dustin Comer won the eight lap heat race with Ray Bloom claiming six lap Trophy Dash honors.

Levi Harless won the 25 lap Northwest Focus Midget Main Event. Harless started on the pole and bolted into lead when the green flag waved, followed by Chris Foster and Brian Holmkivist. Jesse Munn took fourth from Marty Rosler on the ninth lap, and Holmkivist overtook Foster for second on Lap 16. Harless went on to win by over half a lap ahead of Holmkivist with Foster settling for third ahead of Munn, Rosler and Eric Young. Foster set the fast time of 14.057, beating the 14.107 of Harless. The two eight lap heat races were won by Harless. Harless also won the six lap Trophy Dash to score the clean sweep.

Graig Osborne won the 20 lap Street Stock Main Event. This was the seventh win of the season for the current point leader. Osborne also won the eight lap heat race and six lap Trophy Dash to score the clean sweep. Mike Swaim jumped into the early lead ahead of Michael Hollingsworth and Anthony Prather. Prather took second from Hollingsworth on Lap 3, and Osborne followed him into third. Osborne made his move into the lead on Lap 6 with Prather still holding onto second. Taunton Swaim grabbed third on Lap 7. Swaim got by Prather for second on Lap 10. Prather and Andrew Langan had a brief battle for third with Langan grabbing the position on Lap 15. However, Prather regained the spot a lap later. Osborne won by a straightaway ahead of Taunton Swaim with Prather third ahead of Mike Swaim, Langan, Troy Chamberlain and Hollingsworth. Osborne set the fast time of 16.465, beating the 16.910 of Taunton Swaim.

This Friday and Saturday night is Championship Weekend at the speedway, featuring the IMCA Modifieds, Late Models, Todd's Auto Body Limited Sprints, Royalty Core IMCA Sport Modifieds, Street Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. For further information, go to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.


Sanders Wins Bo Hittson Memorial 
At Siskiyou Golden Speedway

Yreka, CA...September 11...Matt Sanders won the 30 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event Saturday night at Siskiyou Golden Speedway. This was the fifth win of the season for Sanders, who currently leads the standings at Southern Oregon Speedway. It was also the night of the track's longest running race, the Bo Hittson Memorial. Bo used to race Stock Cars at the Yreka track in the 1970s and was a police officer who was killed in the line of duty. The win for Sanders was worth $1,012. The night also paid tribute to our first responders.

Isaac Sanders set the early pace ahead of reigning Southern Oregon Speedway champion Jorddon Braaten and Steven Sanders. Matt Sanders got by Steven Sanders for third on Lap 7 as Isaac Sanders was fighting to hold off Braaten. Point leader Ryan Peery settled into fourth on Lap 8 and took third from Matt Sanders on the 12th lap. Braaten had problems on Lap 13 as Matt Sanders moved into second. Peery gained third a lap later. A yellow flag waved on Lap 16. Isaac Sanders led brother Matt and Peery on the restart. Isaac Sanders was doing a good job of leading the way until Matt Sanders seized the opportunity to grab the lead on Lap 17. Matt Sanders went on to win ahead of Isaac Sanders, Peery, Steven Sanders, Ryder Boswell, Colt Boswell, Trevor Tiffee, Jace Wright, Merissa Henson and Briley Keele. Matt Sanders and Peery picked up eight lap heat race wins with Isaac Sanders claiming six lap Trophy Dash honors.

Scott Flowers won the 25 lap Outlaw Pro Stock Main Event. Flowers leads the standings as he attempts to notch his third-consecutive championship with the group. He's also the first repeat winner in the five races the group has had at Yreka so far. Flowers started on the outside front row next to Colby Hammond. Flowers would end up getting the lead with second row starter Matt Harlow soon striking to the second position. Championship contender Johnny Cobb worked his way from the third row to third. In the end, Flowers would prevail ahead of Harlow and Cobb. Rick Lukens came from the sixth row to finish fourth, followed by Hammond, Denny Burtenhouse, Robert Day, Ginny Flowers, James Flowers and Darek Alford. 

Burtenhouse set the fastest time of the 12 competitors on hand with Alford second quick. Corey Biggs and Alford won the eight lap heat races with Cobb picking up the four lap Trophy Dash win.

Cody Peters capitalized on the misfortune of newly crowned champion Josh King to win the 25 lap Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Main Event. This was the second win of the season for Peters.

King started on the outside front row and charged into the lead ahead of previous winner Kalvin Morton and Cody Peters. By the sixth lap, King held about a half-straightaway lead over Morton with Brock Peters settling into fourth. Unfortunately, it was at the Lap 6 mark when the yellow flag waved as Morton saw his race come to an abrupt end. King led Cody Peters and Brock Peters on the restart. King continued to lead the way until his race ended on a Lap 18 yellow flag. This put Cody Peters into the lead for the final restart with his father Brock running second. Ageless veteran Fred Hay settled into third, but Hay was soon challenged by Chad Cardoza. Cardoza made the pass on Hay to grab third on Lap 22. Despite the pressure Brock Peters was giving him, Cody Peters prevailed at the checkered flag. Cardoza ended up third, followed by Hay, Jason Robustelli, Reggie Ayers, Mike Gergel, Colby Bergquist, King and Ryan Smith. 

There were 12 Dwarf Cars, and King and Brock Peters picked up eight lap heat race wins. King won the four lap A Dash with the four lap B Dash win going to Cody Peters.

On September 25th, the season comes to a close with the point finale for the IMCA Sport Modifieds. Rogers, Montgomery, Christian, Beaudoin Win On Championship Night At Coos Bay Speedway

Coos Bay, Oregon....September 11...Tahlan Rogers won the 25 lap NASCAR Sportsman Late Model Main Event Saturday night at Coos Bay Speedway. This was NASCAR Championship Night. A disqualification back in August cost Rogers a shot of the championship, but he used his fourth win of the season to secure second in the final standings behind new champion Ryan Emry

Ryan Emry started on the pole and led a lap before his race ended for a yellow flag. Rogers was the new leader ahead of Brandon Norton and Josh Kraliceck. Jacob Emry took third from Kraliceck on Lap 5, and he gained second on Lap 7 when a yellow flag waved for Norton. Rogers continue to lead Jacob Emry and Mike Lavery on the restart, but Jacob Emry saw his race end on Lap 9. Norton moved into second behind Rogers on the restart. However, Lavery got past Norton on Lap 13. Rogers built a straightaway advantage over Lavery by the time the race ended. Kraliceck made a last lap pass on Norton to finish third. John Player finished fifth, followed by Dustin Hitner, Jacob Emry, Ryan Emry and John McNeil. Hitner and Ryan Emry were the eight lap heat race winners.

Seth Christian won the 25 lap Street Stock Main Event. The 10th win of the season clinched the championship for Christian. Toby McIntyre had the pole and jumped into the early lead ahead of Loren McIntyre and Jeff Thurman. Christian was third on Lap 2, and Loren McIntyre took the lead from Toby McIntyre on the third lap. Christian moved into second a lap later. A yellow flag on Lap 9 bunched the field, and Loren McIntyre continued to lead Christian and Toby McIntyre on the restart. On Lap 16, Christian put the moves on Loren McIntyre to grab the lead. Christian went on to win from there with Loren McIntyre holding on to second, followed by Toby McIntyre, Ken Fox, Steve Dubisar, Thurman, Tyler McIntyre, Payton Reigard and Joseph Wilson. The eight lap heat race wins went to Dubisar and Christian.

Brody Montgomery won the 25 lap America's Mattress Super Late Model Main Event. This was the 11th win of the season for Montgomery as he wrapped up his third championship in the division. As this is the NASCAR Division 1 class, he stands to win $5,500 in track and state point fund money. The division struggled down the stretch with car count, and only four drivers competed on this occasion. Montgomery led from the start ahead of his main rival Braden Fugate and Wayne Butler. Mike Taylor brought out a yellow flag on Lap 10, and Montgomery continue to lead Fugate and Butler on the restart. Montgomery went on to victory ahead of Fugate, Butler and Taylor. Fugate won the eight lap heat race.

Tristen Davison won the 20 lap Mini Outlaw Main Event. This was the second win of the season for Davison. Scott Beaudoin used his second place finish to wrap up the division championship. Davison had the pole and took the early lead ahead of Jason Kellam and Scott Beaudoin. Beaudoin took second from Kellam on Lap 3 before a yellow flag waved for Jamie Daniels. Davison continued to lead Scott Beaudoin and Kellam on the restart. Kellam regained second on Lap 5 with Beaudoin still staying close with him. Mike Beaudoin took fourth from Andrew Wright on Lap 6. The lead trio was running closely when a Lap 18 yellow flag waved. As Davison led the restart, Scott Beaudoin was pressuring Kellam for second before making the pass on the last lap. Davison won ahead of Scott Beaudoin and Kellam. Kevin Black and Jim Van Loon both made late passes on Mike Beaudoin for fourth and fifth. Mike Beaudoin settled for sixth ahead of Daniels, Nicole Emry, Stephanie Nix and Wright. Wright and Kellam won the eight lap heat races.

Seth Christian won the 25 lap Hornet Main Event. This was his 10th win of the season as he wrapped up the division championship. Steven Parker led the first lap before being passed by Dan Beaudoin. Christian was already running third and took second from Parker on Lap 8. On the 10th lap, Christian slipped past Beaudoin for the lead. Both Steven Parker and Kris Parker got around Beaudoin for second and third on Lap 11, and a yellow flag waved on Lap 12. Beaudoin was out of the race at that point, and Kris Parker took second from Steven Parker on the restart as Christian continued to lead the way. However, Steven Parker regained second on Lap 15. Steve Nichols was running in fourth, and he took third from Kris Parker on Lap 20. A yellow flag waved on Lap 23 with both Heather Burton and Penny Moloso eliminated at that point. Christian led Steven Parker and Nichols on the restart, and they would finish in that order, followed by Kris Parker, Isaac Stere, Alexis Baker, St Hill, Lily Metzgus, Burton and Moloso. Christian and Metzgus won the eight lap heat races.

Griff Smith won the 20 lap Junior Stinger Main Event. This was the 17th win of the season for him as he wrapped up another championship. Smith had the pole and jumped into the immediate lead ahead of season runner-up Tallon Dubisar and Cameron Metzgus. Previous winner Madilynn Hardy-Ashley took third from Metzgus on Lap 2 and got by Dubisar for second two laps later. Ashley kept it close in the waning laps, but Smith would prevail at the checkered flag. Tallon Dubisar was a solid third, followed by Metzgus, Alex Butler, Max Haga, Tucker Dubisar, Tanner Dubisar, Anthony Hoggatt and Hailee Tilton. Ashley and Smith picked up the eight lap heat race wins.

Williams, Sarale Score Midget Wins At Ventura Raceway

Ventura, CA...September 11...Hayden Williams won the 30 lap USAC Western States Midgets Main Event Saturday night at Ventura Raceway. The Auckland, New Zealand competitor was piloting Bill Buckley's Esslinger Engineering/Lucas Oil Bullet, and he pocketed $1,200 for his winning effort.

Williams started on the outside front row and raced into the immediate lead ahead of fellow New Zealander Travis Buckley and Troy Rutherford. Blake Bower gained fourth when Brody Fuson fell out on Lap 7 and slipped past Rutherford for third on Lap 10. The second yellow flag of the race waved moments later with Mike Leach out of the race. Williams resumed command on the restart ahead of Buckley and Bower. Yellow flags waved on Laps 12 and 13, eliminating both Dylan Ito and CJ Sarna. Rutherford moved back into third on the Lap 14 restart. The second half of the race went caution free. Williams began to pull away from Buckley as Bower was trying to find a way around Rutherford. When Rutherford fell out on Lap 19, Bower took over the third position. Williams held a half-lap advantage over Buckley by the time the race ended. Bower ended up third, just ahead of Matt Mitchell, Caden Sarale, Chase Johnson, Robbie Josett, Colby Johnson, Gage Rucker and Randi Pankratz.

There were 20 USAC Western States Midgets for the show, and Chase Johnson set the fast time in Woodland Auto Display qualifying when he turned a 12.072 on the 1/5 mile clay oval. Bower was second quick at 12.427, beating the 12.475 of Rutherford. The Extreme Mufflers first 10 lap heat win went to Sarna. The Competition Suspension Incorporated/Rod End Supply second heat win was claimed by Williams, and Josett won the Ultra Shield Race Products/Rod End Supply third heat. Caden Sarale picked up the win in the 20 lap WMR Midgets Main Event. Sarale jumped into the lead early on, followed by reigning Ventura champion Randi Pankratz and Megan Moorehead. A yellow flag waved on Lap 2 with David Prickett and Greg Jewett eliminated from the action. Sarale continued to lead Pankratz and Moorehead on the restart. A Lap 8 yellow flag waved with Darren Brent sidelined at that point. Sarale led Pankratz and Moorehead on the restart. As Sarale started to pull away, Moorhead and Pankratz had a good battle going for second. Moorehead finally grabbed the position on Lap 19. However, Sarale won by about a straightaway with Moorehead second ahead of Pankratz, Kyle Hawse, Bower, Sage Bordenave, Steve Hix, Brody Petrie, Travis Buckley and Todd Hawse.

The WMR Midgets produced their best turnout yet with 20 competitors on hand. Bowers set the fast time of 13.750, beating the 13.802 of Sarale and the 13.861 of Prickett. They ran four eight lap heat races with the wins going to Bower, Hix, Moorhead and Prickett.

Chris Meredith won the 20 lap VRA Senior Sprint Main Event. In the process, he has taken a 25 point lead over Wally Pankratz in the championship battle. Tom Stephens Sr jumped into the early lead ahead of Meredith and Pankratz. Meredith made the pass for the lead on Lap 2 and started pulling away from Stephens. A lap eight yellow flag waved for Stephens, wiping out a straightaway advantage for Meredith. As Meredith continued to lead the restart, Rick Hendrix moved into second with Pankratz still in third. Hendrix kept it reasonably close, but Meredith was just a bit too fast to beat. Pankratz settled for third, followed by Ed Swartz, Mark Sheppard, Mike Long, Stephens and Joey Bishop.

Hendrix set the fast time of 13.641, beating the 13.812 of Meredith and the 13.832 of Swartz. They ran two eight lap heat races with the SpinTech Mufflers heat win going to Wally Pankratz and the Saldana Racing Products heat victory being earned by Bishop.

Eddie Williams won the 20 lap VRA Hobby Stock Main Event. Williams took the lead from the start ahead of Cory Furr and Russell Wagner. A yellow flag waved for Furr after one lap. Williams continued to lead Wagner and Tom Stephens Jr on the restart. Following a Lap 4 yellow flag, the order remained the same at the front, but Stephens and Zack Chavez moved into second and third on Lap 7. Wagner was holding on to fourth and started challenging Chavez for third as Williams and Stephens battled closely at the front of the pack. However, Williams kept his cool and brought it home to the satisfying win, followed by Stephens, Wagner, Chavez, Furr, Sam Garvin and Wayne Heurung. Stephens set the fast time of 15.850, beating the 15.955 of Garvin. Stephens won the eight lap heat race. With Heurung falling out of the Main Event early, Stephens now leads him by 35 points in the championship chase.

Tim Varney won the 20 lap IMCA Mod Lites Main Event. Varney is the current point leader at Bakersfield Speedway. Dakota Brown took the early lead ahead of Tim Varney and Parker Cherry. Varney got past Cherry for second on Lap 6 with point leader JD Brown running in fourth. Varney took the lead from Dakota Brown on Lap 8 with JD Brown moving into third at that point. Varney held a straightaway lead by Lap 15 as JD Brown was challenging Dakota Brown for second. JD finally made the pass on Dakota on Lap 17, but Varney won by a straightaway. JD Brown settled for second ahead of Dakota Brown, Cherry, Dave Dotson, Zander Keeland and Matt Phillips. JD Brown set the fast time of 14.305, beating the 14.650 of Dakota Brown. Eight lap heat race honors went to Varney. JD Brown maintains an eight point lead over Varney in the title chase.

Childress, Blankenship Win Motor City Throwdown Races 
At Kern Raceway

Bakersfield, CA...September 11...Ricky Childress Jr won the 40 lap Dirt Modified Main Event Saturday night at the Kern County Raceway Dirt Track. This was the first of three special Sonoco/Motor City Throwdown races, and the current Bakersfield Speedway Hobby Stock point leader picked up $1,500 for his win.

Pavement Late Model star Buddy Shepherd took the early lead ahead of Bryan Clark and Larry Wise, and a yellow flag waved on Lap 2 with Kyle Heckman out at that point. Shepherd continued to lead Clark and Gavyn Manning on the restart. Clark surrendered second to Manning on the fifth lap. Ventura point leader Trevor Fitzgibbon took fourth from Ryan Davies on Lap 8 with Childress following him into fifth. The lead duo was having a good battle on Lap 10 with Manning finally taking over on the 13th lap as Childress moved into third. Manning had built about a half-straight away lead over Shepherd within a few laps as Childress began looking for a way into second. Childress slipped past Shepherd for the position on Lap 19 with Robby Sawyer finding his way into third on Lap 20. It soon became a close battle between the three drivers for the lead, and Childress put the moves on Manning to gain first on Lap 26. Sawyer moved into second a lap later, but Manning came back strong to reclaim the position on Lap 30. For a few laps, it was close between Manning and Childress. However, Childress would go on to win with Manning settling for second. Sawyer was a straightaway behind the lead duo in third, followed by Fitzgibbon, Shepherd, Clark, Daves, Wise, Steve Noland and Austin Rodarte.

Despite this being the big Boone Nationals weekend in Iowa, the special unsanctioned Dirt Modified race drew a respectable 16 car field. The eight lap heat race wins went to Wise, Childress and Manning.

Tyler Blankenship won the 30 lap Sport Modified Main Event. The win was worth $1,000 for Blankenship. Past IMCA Sport Modified State champion Austin Manzella took the early lead ahead of two-time State champion Nick Spainhoward and Blankenship. A Lap 1 yellow flag waved with Jim Reed, Markus Frazier and Tim Randolph all eliminated. Manzella continued to lead the restart with Blankenship taking second from Spainhoward. Blankenship found his opening and grabbed the lead on Lap 8 as a battle quickly developed between Manzella and Spainhoward for second. Spainhoward made the pass on Lap 12 with a yellow flag waving two laps later for Dylan Potter. Blankenship led Spainhoward and Manzella on the restart. One last yellow flag waved on Lap 19, but it didn't derail Blankenship. He resumed command on the restart and built a straightaway advantage over Spainhoward in victory. Austin Ruskauff and Matt Wankum moved into third and fourth on the last lap as Manzella had problems. Manzella salvaged a fifth place finish, followed by Billy Simkins, Jonathan Hagio, Potter, Randy Schweitzer and Jim Reed. The two eight lap heat race wins were earned by Manzella and Reed.

Tommy Velazquez III won the 25 lap Dwarf Car Main Event. Velasquez is the South Bay Dwarf Car Association champion. Velasquez had the pole and raced into the lead at the green flag, followed by Jonathan Conley and Scotty Preast. A yellow flag waved on Lap 3 with John Alonso eliminated from the action. Velasquez continued to lead Conley and Preast on the restart, but Brandon Wylie grabbed third from Preast on Lap 6. A yellow flag waved on Lap 9 with Dan Varner and Zach Albers both retired from the race. Velasquez led the pack on the restart, but he encountered problems a lap later for a yellow flag with Wylie now in the lead. Wylie led Tim Conley on the restart, but yet another yellow flag waved on Lap 13. Wylie led Jeff Brink and Tim Conley on the restart, and the flying Velasquez made his way back into fourth by Lap 16. Velasquez took third from Tim Conley on Lap 17 and put the moves on Brink for second on Lap 20. A Lap 21 yellow flag waved with Jimmy Damron eliminated at that point. Jonathan Conley moved into third behind Wylie and Velasquez on the restart, but a yellow flag waved a lap later. A Lap 22 yellow flag waved, and things got rougher from there. Velasquez took the lead from Wylie on the restart, and another yellow flag waved on Lap 23. The race was called complete at that point as the division had been on the track for over 42 minutes. Velasquez got the win ahead of Wylie, Jonathan Conley, Brink, Dustin Loughton, Chris Trimino, Orey Woods, Brian Bond, Kobe Kerns and Bradley McNair.

The Dwarf Cars produced an impressive 29 car field, and the eight lap heat race wins went to Tim Conley, Preast, Jonathan Conley and Tommy Velasquez III. Wylie won the six lap Trophy Dash. Nick Velasquez picked up the win in the 10 lap B Main. He started on the pole and proceeded to lead every lap in victory. Tommy Velasquez II held the second position for two laps before Brink got by. Darren Brown settled into third on Lap 4, and Nick Velasquez won by a half-straightaway ahead of Brink, Brown, Jeff Hinz and Woods.

Shafer Wins Late Model 50 Lapper At Stockton 99 Speedway

Stockton, CA...September 11...Gary Shafer Jr won the 50 lap Late Model Main Event Saturday night at the Stockton 99 Speedway. Sam Solari started on the front row and jumped into the early lead ahead of Justin Philpott and Shafer. Dominic Lopez fell out after just one lap, and Daniel DeVore saw his run in fourth end on Lap 9. Shafer took second from Philpott on Lap 6. A Lap 10 restart gave Shafer the opening he needed to take the lead from Solari. Ty Carlson took fourth from JoJo Stearns on Lap 21. Carlson took third from Philpott on Lap 30, but he tangled with Solari in the battle for second for a Lap 32 yellow flag. Shafer continued to lead the restart ahead of Philpott and Stearns, and they ran in that order the rest of the way. Carlson rebounded to finish fourth, followed by Chad Holman, Steve Frasier, Aaron Shankle, Joe Hylton, Dennis Byers and Matt Jones.

Joseph Reichmuth won the 25 lap Bombers Main Event. The point leader jumped into lead at the start ahead of Brandon Jones and Brandon Diede. Reichmuth would stretch his advantage to a half-straightaway over Jones in victory. Rodney Tripp was an early fourth with Allen Rider moving into fifth on Lap 5. Rider took fourth from Tripp on the 15th lap and started pressuring Diede for third. However, Diede would end up finishing third, followed by Rider, Tripp, Justin Scantlin, Jenna Ramos, Jerry Crawford and Nicholas Mello.

Josh Cross won the 25 lap B4 Main Event. It's a close championship battle in this class with incoming leader Mark Hall, Joe Flower and Cross separated by only 17 tallies going into the night. Cross started on the pole next to Flower, and the duo moved into the first and second positions when the green flag waved. Dave Keller was an early third, but Andrew Rumsey got by on Lap 4. Keller continued to run fourth and briefly regained a third on Lap 15, only to surrender the position back to Rumsey for good on lap 17. Cross went on to win ahead of Flower, Andrew Rumsey, Keller, Nick Hall, Mark Hunt, Barrett Sugden, Lukas Castro, Paul Pluguez and Andrea Rumsey. 

Jordan Lovelace won the 20 lap Junior B4 Main Event. Lovelace led from the outset ahead of Jayden Cross and Natalie Harper. They took the checkered flag in that order, but Cross was penalized to last. Lovelace won ahead of Harper and AJ Shankle. Dustin King was a lap down in fourth, followed by Dustin Souza, Chase Lopez and Cross.

Grace Wicke won the Mini Cup Main Event ahead of point leader Kash Holman. Holman was the heat race winner.

Kennerly Wins Hornets Nest 50 At Douglas County Speedway

Roseburg, Oregon...September 11...Mike Kennerly won the 50 lap Pro Motors PRA Hornets Main Event Saturday night at Douglas County Speedway. This was the annual Hornet's Nest 50. The 15 car field meant that the win was worth $250 to Kennerly. He was chased across the finish line by Ryan Dickinson. Brandon Belt finished third, followed by Skyler Whelchel, Pete Lemon, Tyler Organ, Haven Smith, Greg Cox, Barry Cannon and Gage Sharp.

Brian Smith picked up the win in the Johnny's Drive-In PRA Hardtops Main Event. The past Cottage Grove Speedway Late Model champion got the win ahead of reigning champion Kyran Greene and Steve Smith. Past champion Harlon Cox was disqualified, and Donnie Fain finished fourth ahead of Jerry Casey and division mainstay Mike Batman. 

Matt Klaas got the win in the Roseburg Collision Center PRA Super Stock Main Event. He won ahead of John Doyle, Dylan Gricher and Dale Roth.

Mucci Wins Upstate Bomber Race, Winchel Legend Car Winner At Redwood Acres Raceway

Eureka, CA...September 11...Trystan Mucci won the 40 Lap Bombers Main Event Saturday night at Redwood Acres Raceway. This was the second night of the Legends of the Redwoods event and also the third round of the four-race Upstate Bomber Series. Mucci has won all three of those races, and the win on this occasion paid him $1,000.

Danny Helm raced into the early lead ahead of Jordan Krupa and Donnie Brown. Mucci found his way into third on the eighth lap and led Loren Powers Jr past Krupa a lap later. It was a close three-car battle at the front for the next few laps before Mucci and Powers both got past Helm on Lap 12. The lead duo begin to pull away from third place with Powers taking the lead from Mucci on Lap 15. At the same time, Mike Lovell took third from Helm. By the 20th lap, Lovell trailed Powers and Mucci by a straightaway as Raymond Taylor Jr settled into fifth. Taylor took forth from Helm on Lap 28. The lead battle got interesting down the stretch, and Mucci took the lead from Powers on Lap 35. Mucci held off every effort from Powers to regain the lead as he brought it home to the well-earned victory. Lovell settled for third, followed by Powers, Helm, Brown, Tony Ramazzotti, Roy Ingalls, Jordan Krupa and Ed Rasmussen.

Powers was the quickest of 13 qualifiers with a lap of 18.076, beating the 18.135 of Lovell and the 18.216 of Mucci. They ran a pair of 10 lap heat races with the wins going to Mucci and Lovell.

Cody Winchel won the 35 lap Legend Car Main Event. The special race paid $2,000 to win, and Brandon White collected $1,000 for second. Winchel jumped into the lead at the start ahead of Brett Murrell and White, but White got past Murrell for second on Lap 3. Cameron Austin settled into fourth and led point leader Chris Lawrence past Murrell for third and fourth on the ninth lap. A yellow flag soon turned into a red flag after Emily Vest crashed on lap 12. Vest was okay but did sustain some injuries. Winchel continued to lead White and Austin when the race was finally restarted after a lengthy delay. The race was shortened to 30 laps when the yellow flag waved on Lap 27. The division had already been on the track for over 40 minutes by then. Winchel maintained the lead on the restart and held off the persistent White to claim the victory. Austin settled for third, followed by Lawrence, Murrell, Tyler Avelar, Tyler Krupa, Maleesa Miles, Jordan Paiment and Andy Thorton. 

There were 17 Legend Cars for the big money special race, and Winchel set the fast time of 17.772, beating the 17.786 of White. The 10 lap heat race wins went to Thorton and Winchel

David Henderson won the 50 lap Late Model Main Event. Henderson is the point leader, and this was his first win of the season. Henderson raced into the lead at the start ahead of Dustin Walters and Eugene Palmer. Henderson and Walters started to pull away a little bit in their battle for the lead, but a yellow flag flew on Lap 22. Huddleston continued to lead Palmer and David Miller when the green flag waved, but a yellow flag waved a lap later as Sierra Furia's race came to an end. Henderson led the restart with Miller getting past Walters for second. However, Walters got back around Miller two laps later. By the 40th lap, Henderson had built a half-straightaway lead on Walters. Walters closed the gap a little bit, but Henderson proved to be just too fast to beat. Miller ended up third, followed by Palmer, Scott Baker, Nick Ford, Bryan Crawford and Furia. Henderson set the fast time of 16.549, beating the 16.611 of Walters and the 16.685 of Palmer. 

Gannon Cyphers won the 25 lap Mini Stock Main Event. This was the fourth win of the season for Cyphers. Cyphers raced into the lead at the start ahead of Cole Peterson and point leader Eric O'Ferrall. O'Ferrall and Peterson both got past Cyphers on Lap 2, but Cyphers moved back into second on the fourth lap. It was a close battle for the lead, but O'Farrell was holding on until Cyphers finally got by on Lap 10. A yellow flag waved moments later. Cyphers maintained the lead on the restart ahead of
O'Ferrall and reigning champion Gary Klinetobe. Klinetobe got around O'Ferrall for second on Lap 15. However, Cyphers was not to be denied as he went on to victory ahead of Klinetobe, Brian Murrell Jr, Jarrett Mayo, O'Farrell, Peterson, Shannon Palmer and Allison McCarty.

Klinetobe set the fast time of 18.454, beating the 18.672 of Murrell and the 18.680 of Cyphers. O'Ferrall won the 10 lap heat race. 

Dylan Ford won the 25 lap Roadrunner Main Event. This was the second win of the season for Ford. Dylan Ford took the lead at the start ahead of Nick Ford and Jeff French. Jeremiah Martin took third from French on Lap 2 and got by Nick Ford for second a lap later. Ryan David moved into third on Lap 6 and took second on Lap 9 before a yellow flag waved. On the restart, David moved into the lead ahead of Dylan Ford and Nick Ford. Dylan Ford regained the lead on Lap 12 with Nick Ford moving into second on Lap 14 as David retired. Brian Hopkins was running in third at that point. During the second half of the race, Dylan Ford built about a half-lap advantage over Nick Ford as he went on to victory. Hopkins settled for third, followed by Martin, French, incoming point leader Bob Ratzlaff, Ty Rose, Elizabeth Ingalls, David and Dylan Cook. David set the fast time of 20.152, beating the 20.463 of Dylan Ford and the 20.765 of Nick Ford. Bob Ratzlaff and Dylan Ford won the 10 lap heat races.

Racing season concludes with the O'Reilly Auto Parts Fall Spectacular on September 24th and 25th. The Friday portion will include the Late Models, Legend Cars, Bombers, Mini Stocks and Roadrunners. The Editor's Viewpoint

Prior to the season starting, I was gathering information for a potential book. Actually, I still have it ready if I want to use it. This required me picking through some old DCRR magazine files for articles, but it was all about the 2000 season. The concept is a look back at just that season with the articles that ran in the old magazine that year. There were several tracks that we had complete coverage of, plus we had photos from a few different photographers. I thought the idea was cool, and I would only need to write one additional article to make it happen. Everything else would just be the work putting the book together.

If that book were to be received well enough, additional books covering the next three years would be easy enough to assemble from there. Anything I chose to do from the archives beyond that would require more work. The thing I like about Lulu is the quality of the print on demand book. I don't have the money and have no desire to deal with somebody who may or may not publish what I do. Or, dealing with somebody who would try to dictate what goes in the book and what doesn't. I like the idea of doing things on my terms, which is what was nice about the two racing books I've written.

I'm very proud of Just A Kid From The Grandstands, and I think My Apologies will be just as interesting once I get it edited and ready for publication. However, I really want to get into some good racing history books. I'd also like to put a few together that won't take a lot of time to assemble. To that end, I have given thought to a second Best Of The Blog And Beyond book. Since I did the first one, my blogs have covered several race tracks from the 2015 season to the present. I don't know what interest there would be in anything of that nature. It's only an idea I'm considering, but it is an option.

Regardless of what I decide here, I'm looking forward to winding down the media effort. If things go the way I'm thinking, I won't do the big blog posts with everything in them after September. Any additional articles will be decided on a track by track basis with the exception of any point racing events left to cover. The Viewpoint column might even take a break unless I feel there's something I need to comment on. It's time to start turning my attention to all of the content I have written for My Apologies. There's probably going to be a little bit of additional content written for it while editing the book, plus I have another book in mind that I might work on simultaneously.

I don't have the desire to maintain the blog as a weekly racing coverage entity anymore. I can't justify putting the time into this for what I get out of it. I'm very proud of the effort I've made, and I think it still makes a difference to some extent. However, the way forward to cover the current racing scene will be through audio and video. I am looking into the necessary investments for what I have in mind, but my budget is limited. Blog posts at that point will deal with special articles that might look at current events or take a look at something from the past. I'm looking to get away from spending as many hours writing and editing as I do.

The history of the sport means more to me than the current product. It just does. Don't misunderstand me. Racing as we know it must continue, and I support that. I also support telling some of those old stories and bringing them to light again. I think I can offer something that will resonate with longtime fans and maybe spark the curiosity of newer fans who don't know any of those stories. I feel like there's a lot of work that I've been needing to do for a long time, and yet I have accomplished next to nothing. When I created this blog in 2007, the intent was to begin writing a book within a year or so, and I failed at that. 

When it comes to racing history, one of the things I am most proud of is my involvement in creating the Hall of Fame at two different venues. I've even sparked some talk about an additional track honoring its history the same way. When I moved up to Oregon, I knew that Southern Oregon racing history needed to be honored. I had two ideas I started pitching immediately, the R Charles Snyder Salute and Hall of Fame night. I felt as if both things would be important in helping grow Southern Oregon Speedway to the level people remember. I'm so proud of what was accomplished in the four years I was involved and saddened at how far things have fallen. 

It was my intention to contact additional people who have been involved in Southern Oregon racing for years to see about somebody taking the reigns of the Hall of Fame. Mike knew we'd be distancing ourselves and that the community would need to step up more. We were still actively involved in the process all three years, although we did create a committee. I reached out to one of the members, letting them know that the display boards with all of the clippings were still at the track. I also let him know that if he kept it going, I would help him where I could if he wanted me to. I don't know if he even reached out to the track, but Hall of Fame night obviously didn't happen this year. 

What I was so proud of was the community got more and more behind this idea with each year. We actually started hearing some of the older racing families talking of coming back to race again, which was one of my goals from the start. I wanted that, and I wanted to make sure the all time greats were honored properly. I am not as well versed on the racing history as most people down there who have been around a long time, although I know a little bit. I know enough to know that we barely scratched the surface with what we did. I can only hope somebody will step up, but this is what I say to anybody in the Medford area who might be reading. If you care about the heritage of racing down there, pick up the ball yourself and make it happen in 2022. You can do it, and you certainly would have whatever support I could give you from where I am. 

At least we did it for a few years, and this led to me returning to my 20-year-old idea about doing it at Antioch Speedway. The challenges I had were pretty obvious. I'm in Oregon, and I'm trying to organize an event for honoring the heritage of my once hometown track. A lot of work needed to be done, and I had $0 to start with. The community rallied behind me, and the idea I pitched to John Soares back in 1999 finally happened. Better late than never. Both Hall of Fame nights at Antioch were successful, though I'm a bit more proud of the first year than the second. I could have done some things better than I did in 2019.

I probably never would have left the director role had certain games not been played from people I thought I could trust. However, I also felt that in order to keep this going in a positive direction, I needed to pick a successor. What I've seen out of Chris Briggs is a good thing. He's keeping it going and generating a lot of buzz in the process. There will be some faces seen at Antioch Speedway that haven't been seen in a while on Hall of Fame night, including Steve Hendren. I think it's pretty cool that the tradition will live on, and it might not have ever started if I hadn't gotten in there and did what I did first.

I can hear long time readers of this column. "Okay Don, what's the catch here? What's the nitpick?" Okay, I didn't agree with everything 100%, but I'm not going to site where I disagree. The important thing is there will be a Hall of Fame night at Antioch Speedway on October 9th, and I don't disagree with any of the inductees. I might disagree with the timing of some of them, but not the people getting inducted themselves. They all deserve to get in. The beautiful thing about this, as I told Chris, is there's always next year. When somebody complains, they have to understand that the person they think should get in might make it next year. This needs to be a tradition that goes on for years to come, and I believe it will be. 

About the only thing I can add is my disappointment that I won't be there. It's something that definitely means a lot to me, and I'd like to be there doing the ceremonies with John Myers as has been the case the last two years. John will be the guy this year, which makes me feel a little bit better. It's just that on a night like that, I'd like to be there. I'd like to be helping take care of those last-minute details, such as those display boards with all of the clippings. I left quite a few of them behind, so my hope is that they get used. I'm hearing conflicting things regarding those boards and some of the Hall of Fame plaques that didn't get collected in 2019.

One of the cool things I noticed on Saturday afternoon before the races was an update from Nathan Corn. Nathan spends a lot of Saturday nights at Dixon Speedway, and he'll have good reason on October 30th. We reported a couple of weeks ago that Nathan had gotten Promoter Jeremy Prince to agree to run a Mini Stock Enduro. I'm glad to see this happen as it's been about seven years since the one they had on New Year's Day. These will be bone stock Mini Stocks. Basically Hornet race cars. The rules are simple, and it's about going out there and having fun. I'm not sure what the car rules are as I haven't seen a copy of the rules, but it is pretty basic.

In fact, I'm not even sure a Hornet Mini Stock is legal for this, which is kind of disappointing. The term Mini Stock can get confusing. I'm not talking about the established division that's been around in some places for many years, but the entry level stock class. I think there are drivers who would bring their cars if they were legal, so if you're having to build something that's unique for this race, I'm not sure what the turnout will actually be. 

I don't know who's talking about competing or any of that. The only thing I do know is I endorse the idea and would like to see more things like this attempted. The track is capable of doing a few things more than Micro Sprints if they had the desire to explore any of that. That's not a knock against the Micros, because they have one hell of a program. I did find it curious to see a couple of the names that were down in Lemoore instead of Dixon for the Micro Sprint race last Saturday, but I don't know if that's indicative of anything or not.

Petaluma Speedway made the decision a couple of days before the most recent race to remove the Winged 360 Sprint Cars from the lineup. I was really disappointed in the move. I sort of understand if Rick Faeth really felt he had nobody coming, but I don't see why the track wouldn't have had a dozen or so cars. That's about as good as it gets for the class at Petaluma these days. My concern is they should be sending a message to the racers that Petaluma Speedway wants a regular Winged 360 Sprint Car program in much the same way they've done with the IMCA Modifieds this year. You've got to fight for this. Sometimes as a promoter you have to stand on the hill you created and see if you're still there when it's all said and done.

The decision was made, and the track was going ahead with a three division program. What's interesting was there was a code red issued to Dwarf Car and Hobby Stock racers the day before the race to see if anybody wanted to come out and race. They wouldn't even be charged an entry fee. That sort of promoting is beneath a place like Petaluma Speedway, though I do understand the desperation. Nobody ended up bringing enough cars to run another division, but the track had enough cars to run the Wingless Spec Sprint, IMCA Modified and Mini Stock program as scheduled.

The track isn't abandoning the Winged 360 Sprint Cars, or at least I haven't heard anything to that effect. They have the Adobe Cup on September 25th. This has generally been a $5,000 to win race, although I don't know if that will be the case this year. It's a little late in the game for really promoting this deal, and we haven't seen the purse for it as of this writing. Since the cancellation of the Maselli and Sons race for the Late Models, this event has been their signature postseason race. I hope it goes well, and I anticipate a pretty good turnout for the Jay's Mobile Welding Service Super Stock portion of the show as the Tri State Pro Stock Series supports it.

Because you couldn't run IMCA sanctioned stuff for points, some tracks didn't bother to book anything for those classes last week. Down in the valley, we had a tale of two different races. Keller Auto Speedway ran a race on Friday that had a terrible turnout, including only eight cars for the $2,000 to win the Wingless 360 Sprint Car race. If not for the West Coast Sport Compacts, Hanford would have been a complete dud that night. I've already commented on that in the previous post, but that race made me wonder who was coming to Kern County Raceway in the Modified and Sport Modified classes on Saturday.

However, there was a difference. That track had sponsorship from the Motor City auto dealership as well as Sunoco, and they were paying nice purses for both divisions. This included $1,500 to win for the Modifieds and $1,000 to win for the Sport Modifieds. This resulted in 16 Modifieds and 12 Sport Modifieds. They also had 29 Dwarf Cars, so they had a hit on their hands. This Motor City Throwdown series will have two races on the first weekend of December, and the purses will just get better with each race. Actually, Kern Raceway had one of the most successful shows of the weekend as far as I could tell.

From the looks of things, Redwood Acres Raceway didn't do too badly for their Legends of the Redwoods weekend. The Saturday portion drew over a dozen Upstate Bombers and nearly 20 Legend Cars. They even had eight Late Models along with nearly 10 cars each in the Mini Stocks and Roadrunners. They've been hanging in there and getting a little bit of momentum going, although it's a battle for sure. They did their best to keep the program moving, but you can't control when somebody crashes. Emily Vest sustained some injuries in her Legend Car crash, although nothing life threatening. The incident delayed the program for about 40 minutes, but the Bombers closed the show with one heck of a race. 

I was happy to be able to get a digital peak at Ventura Raceway via Race Monitor, and it had to be considered another successful night for Promoter Jim Naylor. Eight Senior Sprints is about as much as you can hope for these days, but the stars of the show were the 20 cars each they had in the USAC Western States Midgets and WMR Midgets. What we're witnessing with the WMR may be a shift in the power structure of Midget racing in California. The BCRA has become stagnant, while the Western States Midgets struggle at times. BCRA will be at Kern County Raceway this weekend, so I'm curious what sort of numbers they are going to draw.

I think the WMR Midgets are nipping at the heels of BCRA because they are more or less based in the Bay Area. When Antioch Speedway Promoter Chad Chadwick looked at the numbers, he knew he needed to add something additional to the September 25th program. He didn't drop the BCRA Midgets, but he did add the WMR Midgets. What we're seeing is WMR series organizer Mike McCluney is open to adding different tracks to the schedule, while keeping Watsonville and Ventura very much involved. It's a smart move, and he'll probably find himself in a position where he has to turn down race dates very soon.

While I consider Ventura and Kern County Raceways two of the success stories for this past weekend, there were shows that didn't perform as well. For starters, there's Coos Bay Speedway. Actually, it seems like the track on the Oregon coast is seeing number increases in several classes, but the NASCAR Late Models have struggled at four cars. I think it may may be a case of overbooking, which I have commented on recently. I'm not going to rehash it here. They still had better numbers than most of the other Oregon tracks when it comes to car count. 

Cottage Grove Speedway didn't do so well. The one saving grace of the night was the shootout between the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Modifieds. They took eight drivers from each class, but the Sport Modifieds had to run their rules. It was called a shootout with points counted for each division, but the Modifieds easily won that with a sweep of the Top 5. I don't know how anybody could have expected a different outcome. The disappointment was the six Winged 360 Sprint Cars and six Focus Midgets that were there along with the seven Street Stocks. 

As I've said, Heather Boyce has to engage in creative booking to prop up her Winged 360 Sprint Cars, because the numbers aren't what they used to be. She was competing against the Platinum Cup in Chico, which drew a few cars from the Pacific Northwest that might otherwise have been in Cottage Grove. One disappointment I had with Cottage Grove was that incoming point leader Garen Linder decided to skip the race rather than hold on to his championship. Is that the value of a Winged 360 Sprint Car title at Cottage Grove these days? Overall, the state of Sprint Car racing in Oregon is not very good, but that's another subject. 

Southern Oregon Speedway took a shot at hosting a big Late Model race. This wasn't going to be anything special at first. It was merely the championship finale for the Late Models along with the Mini Stocks, Limited Sprints and Late Model Lites. A death in the Massey family saw the race changed to the Cameron James Memorial. This race was hastily booked with an impressive purse. We're talking $4,000 to win. The kind of money they were paying deserved a little bit more time to hype the thing up and get more support. One week simply wasn't enough. 

The other thing they had working against them was 13 Late Models stayed in Willamette, and a couple of those guys might have come down if they didn't have the Willamette race. My way of thinking was the track had booked a special Wingless 360 Sprint Car race. It's actually the fourth running of the Cascade Wingless Sprint Car Challenge, Presented by Herz Precision Parts. It will pay $3,500 to win. This happens on September 25th, but no support divisions were announced. They could have easily put the Late Models on this night if Massey Construction was willing to sponsor then instead of putting the money up on the 11th. 

Two ways of looking at it are you could have made the September 25th show that much better. That's not something I think you can argue against. On the other hand, they probably wouldn't have gotten the nine cars that showed up on Saturday night. They'd have been lucky to get a half-dozen, and the fans certainly wouldn't have seen very much racing if that had been the case. Besides, it's been announced that the track will put non-point IMCA Modified and Sport Modified races on September 25th, and the Modifieds are being advertised as $2,000 to win.

As the IMCA point window doesn't officially shut until the end of September, they could have easily made the September 25th date the point finale. One thing I heard from a few critics of us was we didn't book these divisions enough when Mike McCann promoted the place. The reason for doing it the way we did it was to keep the car count numbers up. I think our point was proven. The track cited the fact that Yreka has a point race on September 25th for not doing points and added that they knew that some people had already made other plans that night. They said booking it as a point race would be unfair to those drivers. I can understand that.

Management at Southern Oregon Speedway is going to have to seriously assess the car count situation there and what needs to be done. There are so many factors that contribute to that, and it would take more space in this column than I want to give to it today. The fans saw nine Late Models last week along with seven Mini Stocks, eight Late Model Lites and five Limited Sprints. It's saddens me to see the numbers falling the way they have, but as I said, there are several factors at play here. You work with what you've got and make the best of it, so I can't put them down for trying. 

What I find interesting is Siskiyou Golden Speedway matched or beat the car counts at Cottage Grove, Medford and Petaluma last weekend. When's the last time they could say that? This was the Bo Hittson Memorial race, which is very important to the track. At times, I don't know if management has played this race up well enough in recent years. Bo was a Stock Car racer there in the 1970s who was also a law enforcement officer. He was killed in the line of duty. I like the way Kevin Barba promoted this race. He made it about remembering Bo and honoring our first responders. 

Since you can't run for IMCA points that weekend, you don't know how many Sport Modifieds are coming for the race. They did pay $1,012 to win, and that attracted a 12 car field. Maybe that's not as good as it could have been, but it certainly could have been worse. They put on a good race, and they also had excitement in the Dwarf Cars and Outlaw Pro Stocks, which produced 11 and 12 car fields, respectively. All things considered, this was one of the better promotions the track has had this year. There's only one race left on the schedule, and you always want to end your season strong. 

The idea is to leave them wanting more and give them something to look forward to next year. Kevin has finally figured that out, so the idea of booking races in October has been eliminated. That's for the best. About the only thing I would even entertain would be a fun run on the first weekend of October before putting everything away. Anybody who wants to come out and practice or what have you, this is the day to do it. Even that can be problematic, so I favor the idea of ending the season on September 25th and going about making your plans to make next year better. There's a lot of work to be done in Yreka.

Again, there's a lot of work to be done at many venues that aren't seeing the numbers. I think we're damn lucky to get what we're getting at these tracks. There's so much going on in the world right now, and businesses across the board are taking a hit. Racing was obviously going to feel the effect as well. I think you had a lot of promoters bracing for impact this year, but knowing they had to open the gates and do the best they could. You can't help but respect them all for doing what they do. Even if I might seem critical at times, I do respect these people for taking the risk. It's a lot of work, and it can be thankless work at that.

I don't get political here if I can help it, but I think people will be looking at the results of the California election and bracing for impact. Now that things have turned out the way they have, I think people shouldn't be surprised if new rules are put into place that will hamper businesses, not just sports and auto racing. That's about all I want to say about that here. It does factor in when you look at the fact that California has several tracks wanting to keep booking races, and they will keep going into early December. They will unless the restrictions start getting harsher. 

It's interesting to note that tracks had to incorporate internet pay-per-view into the plan to open last year when opening the grandstands was not an option. The idea was to get any sort of revenue at all, but I bet they didn't do spectacular business at first. I've been pitching the idea that tracks should do this kind of thing since long before we were dealing with what happened last year. I saw it as a possible revenue source for a track to build on. Traditional promoters bristle at such a notion, because those fans aren't at your track buying your food and souvenirs, but it's still money coming in. Local fans are still going to come if you promote your track right.

I loved to see the tracks that were giving away the broadcast for free last year. They might have been crazy, but there was something so cool about it. Madera and Eureka continue to do this, and Ukiah and Lakeport have the cheapest price tag associated with an internet pay-per-view that I know of. It's still some money, though not as much as the other guys are charging. I wish promoters didn't have to look at this as something that may be needed to keep the business financially viable, but it's definitely something to consider. We don't know what's around the corner. How will businesses be affected when you have to show proof of the poke or do the things they mandate in order to support a local business? That's a whole other can of worms.

What I am curious of is how well this has worked out for the tracks who are now in their second year of doing it. Are the numbers increasing? You don't have to get too many thousands of dollars into it before it's something that will support the business. I don't want to get into the number crunching of the whole thing, but $20 per viewer at 100 purchases gets you $2,000. Think about that. As revenue grows, tracks can benefit big time if they do it right and create a product that people want to spend money on. However, you'd better be giving them a good presentation if you really want to make it fly. 

The reason to keep the internet pay-per-view going this year when tracks can open with full attendance and sell concessions is pretty obvious. If restrictions start being put into place again, you have the infrastructure in place to keep streaming the show live. It's a tool to promote your venue even if you can have full attendance. Long time promoters will worry that they're getting their crowd to stay home rather than come to the track, but here's another way to look at it. Some people don't feel safe going to the track at the moment, so this is a promoter's chance to get any kind of money out of them. Tracks with a good enough product will get people to pay for the stream who wouldn't be able to attend if that was the only option they had to see the show. 

Last year saw plenty of trial and error when it came to streaming. Tracks didn't know what equipment they needed in some cases or didn't have enough bandwidth. Whatever the issue, they worked to overcome it. They've worked at polishing their presentations and have had this option for every race. I'm curious if the numbers are adding up. Are they improving? That's something I don't know, although we certainly have enough streaming services out there to prove there's money to be made on this. One of the things modern era promoters have for promoting racing these days is the technology available. Used properly, it can enhance your business. Internet pay-per-views are a part of that now.

I'm happy to see Merced Speedway getting ready for their point finale this weekend. There are going to be five divisions of racing excitement as only the Valley Sportsman division wasn't included. Cooperation is a thing that can work if the promoters agree to it. Merced is the reason Antioch Speedway didn't book IMCA stuff this week, and Bakersfield is wrapping up their IMCA season the following week and looking forward to the big show on the second weekend of October. This means that Merced could see an increase in IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars this weekend, and I hope they do. Champions will be crowned. 

There's a lot of anticipation in Watsonville for the Pat and Jim Pettit Memorial Dirt Track Shootout the following week. Antioch Speedway will be trying a couple of different promotions, which will include the Wingless Spec Sprints, Dwarf Cars, Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks this week. I guess I'll end my observations with an Antioch Speedway thought. 

They had the Malicious Monster Truck Insanity tour last Friday and Saturday, and what they had was a hit. From the site of these gargantuan vehicles to the way they put on their show and the way the announcer presents it, this is a very entertaining program. There was a strong attendance on Saturday night, and I'm happy to see that. I know the attendance numbers haven't been great for them this year, and they needed something like this. There's a reason tracks are looking at Monster Trucks among the other special attractions, and an even bigger reason why they go with this particular group. The results speak for themselves.
