Collier, Massey, Brown Grab Rocky Hill Victories

Porterville, CA...The good start to the 2016 season continued Saturday night at Rocky Hill Speedway.  The four division program featured nice car counts for the Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks.  Drivers grabbing the wins on the night included Kevin Collier (Hobby Stocks), Clinton Massey (Mini Stocks), Dakota Brown (American Stocks) and Roy Atchison (Super 4's).

Going back to the San Joaquin Valley Series of the 1990's, Kevin Collier has been a force between the tracks in Portervile and Bakersfield.  Back then, it was Street Stocks, but these days it's Hobby Stocks.  The 2015 Bakersfield champion Collier lives in Porterville.  He returned to his home track and collected the victory ahead of Colby Quinton.  He became the third different winner in the competitive field.  Quinton settled for to his second consecutive runner up finish, while defending champion Raymond Noland Jr. completed the podium finish.  2015 Mini Stock champion Jared Plumlee managed a fourth place finish ahead of veteran Karl Noland.  Gene Glover finished sixth ahead of 2014 Mini Stock champion Joe Robinson.  Robert Jackson made his Hobby Stock debut in the former Jennifer Corder car with an eighth place finish as James Cornelius and Don Mead completed the Top 10 in the 15 car field.

Clinton Massey has a Hobby Stock and a Mini Stock, but he brought his Mini Stock on Saturday night to compete in the 13 car field.  Jason Cook has been on a roll with two feature wins.  After his third place finish last time out, Massey was hoping to end Cook's streak.  The third ranked driver in 2015, Massey accomplished that goal.  Chris Rutledge made his first visit since June of last season and had a strong second place finish ahead of rookie Steven Scott.  Point leader Cook settled for fourth ahead of Zack Westlake, Josh Nichols, Wade Moore, Lance Gonzales, Jose Rosales and Candy Soares.

The American Stocks were able to have their own race again as six cars competed.   Bakersfield point leader Dakota Brown collected the win ahead of former Mini Stock racer Bob Ellis and another Bakersfield competitor, Tyler Johnson.  2015 champion Jeff Lloyd, rookie Monte Ince and Clay Walters completed the finishing order.

In Super 4's competition, defending champion  Roy Atchison's reign of domination continued as he won the Main Event once again.  Russell Silvas and double division racer Kit Murphy made up the remainder of the field.  J.J. Hughes and Larry Ramirez were Main Event scratches.

The busy month of May continues as these same four divisions will race this Friday night and come back on May 28th for another race.
