Alex Wilson Pads Merced Speedway Point Lead With Victory

Alex Wilson used a front row start to lead every lap in winning the 20 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Sunday night at Merced Speedway.  The win was the second of the season for Wilson, and he used it to increase his point lead at Merced and in the IMCA State point race.  Wilson came up on traffic late, but even that didn’t slow him down as he scored an impressive victory.  Ryan Porter won a late race duel with Kyle Wilson for a second place finish.

Bruce “Bubba” Nelson captured his second IMCA Sport Modified feature victory of the season.  The lead five drivers ran closely early on as Dwayne Short led the first five laps.  Nelson started back in the fourth row, but he used an inside pas in Turn 3 to grab the lead on lap six.  Nelson was challenged briefly by Fred Ryland before Ryland pitted.  Nelson won by a wide margin in the non stop event.  Gary Tucker was second just ahead of Mark Odgers.

Austin Van Hoff won his second 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event.  Van Hoff followed the surprising leader Jeff Lacy very closely for nine laps before making an inside pass in Turn 4 to grab the lead.  Point leader Kevin Joaquin made an outside pass on the back stretch a lap later to take the lead from Van Hoff only to lose the lead on the next lap with a flat tire.  Third place Ryan Hart also pitted with a flat as Van Hoff held the lead once more.  Van Hoff pulled away to a commanding straightaway advantage at the checkered flag.  Robbie Loquaci and Lacy enjoyed season best finishes in second and third, respectively.

Nor Cal Dwarf Car visitor Ryan Winter won the 20 lap Dwarf Car Main Event to become the fifth different winner in six races.  Winter led all the way in posting the victory ahead of another first time visitor, Buddy Olshowka, and point leader Mike Drake.

Chris Corder won his second 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event of the season.  Corder led all the way, but point leader Darren Miguel pulled onto his bumper with two laps to go.  However, Corder continued his mission to try to regain the point lead as he collected his second win in the last three races.  Miguel settled for second ahead of Mike Germait.

Racing resumes at Merced Speedway next Sunday night with a six division show that is being billed as Legends Of Merced Speedway night. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks., Valley Sportsman and Limited Late Models are all on the night’s schedule.
