Foulger Wins Wild IMCA Modified Feature At Merced Speedway

Gaining the lead when a slower car spun in front of the leader on lap 14, Troy Foulger won the 20 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Sunday night at Merced Speedway.   Foulger finished second in his visit a couple weeks ago and is a four time champion at Merced’s sister track in Antioch.

Ricky Thatcher and Bill Egleston exchanged the lead during the first two laps before Thatcher took over on lap three.  Thatcher held the point until losing the lead to Alex Wilson on a lap ten restart.  A. Wilson seemed headed for his second straight win before a slower car spun right in front of him in Turn 2 for a lap 14 caution flag.

This gave the lead to Foulger, who drove a masterful race on the bottom groove the rest of the way for the victory.  A. Wilson made a late pass on brother Kyle Wilson for the second place finish.

Fred Ryland returned to the Merced Speedway winner’s circle for the first time in about three months with an impressive win in the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event.  Dwayne Short led two laps before surrendering the lead to point leader Josh Hensley.  Hensley held the spot until he brushed the back wall on lap six and got a flat tire.  Ryland raced by on the inside for the lead and would lead the rest of the way with Mark Odgers a close second.  Tim Cecil was a season best third.

Past champion Ryan Hart made a return in his Hobby Stock and ended up winning the 20 lap Main Event.  Hart is now the 14th different winner in 18 races.  Hart started back in the fourth row as point leader Kevin Joaquin set the pace for 14 laps.  On a lap 15 restart, Hart pressured Joaquin hard, and he made his winning move with a low pass in the third turn. From there, Hart stayed smooth and collected a satisfying victory ahead of Joaquin and Josh Hensley.

Mike Corsaro won the 15 lap Dwarf Car Main Event.  Corsaro chased Alan Heeney for two laps before grabbing the lead on a lap three restart.  Heeney ran closely in second until spinning on lap eight.  From there, Corsaro won by a straightaway ahead of point leader Mike Drake and Lionel Francis.

Mark Garner captured both the ten lap Limited Late Model Main Event and his heat race ahead of Buddy Thatcher to wrap up his championship season

Racing resumes at Merced Speedway next Sunday night with a five division show that will feature IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Mini Stocks.
