Tucker Scores Second Merced Speedway Victory

Gary Tucker collected his second 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event win of the season Sunday night at Merced Speedway.  Tucker chased Dwayne Short for three laps before making a pass in Turn 4 for the lead.  During the later stages of the race, Bruce Nelson made a serious challenge for the lead and even had a pass negated by a yellow flag.  However, Tucker kept his cool and grabbed a well earned victory.  Nelson suffered a last lap mechanical failure as Mark Odgers finished second ahead of Short.

Point leader Alex Wilson finally won his first 20 lap IMCA Modified Main Event of the season.  The first ten laps of the race saw Bob Williamson lead five laps before surrendering to A. Wilson.  A. Wilson  got sideways and lost the lead briefly to Bill Egleston before gaining it back.  From there, A. Wilson went on to score the satisfying victory.  Brother Kyle Wilson rebounded from an early spin in the non stop event to finish second ahead of Egleston.

Chris Falkenberg won the 20 lap Hobby Stock Main Event to become the 13th different feature winner in this division this season.  George Silva had a front row start and led for 15 laps until brushing the back wall.  Falkenberg raced by on the inside as point leader Kevin Joaquin made it a close three car battle.   Joaquin gained second on lap 17 and was looking to the inside of Falkenberg as they entered Turn 4 on lap 19.  Falkenberg got sideways in front of Joaquin with Joaquin going through the infield.  Falkenberg recovered with the lead and won ahead of Silva and Austin Van Hoff.

Darren Miguel rebounded from a bad heat race in a big way as he won the 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event from last starting.  Chris Corder raced into the lead with Kelly Campanile in close pursuit as Miguel worked his way to the front.  With five laps to go, Miguel caught the lead duo and worked the outside.  Campanile spun in Turn 2 to avoid taking out Corder on lap 19.  Miguel raced around Corder on the outside moments later for the lead.  Miguel went on to his 11th win ahead of Corder and Campanile.

Mike Drake led from flag to flag to win his second 12 lap Dwarf Car Main Event.  Drake also won the heat race and was followed in the Main Event by Chuck Weir and Brian Gray.

Racing resumes at Merced Speedway next Sunday night with a five division show that will feature IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Dwarf Cars and Limited Late Models.
