Pittman Prevails In World Of Outlaws Antioch Speedway Visit

The World Of Outlaws Sprint Cars returned to Antioch Speedway for their second and final appearance of the year, and once again Daryn Pittman prevailed in the 30 lap Main Event.  It was also Pittman’s fifth win on the tour this season.  Pittman made his winning pass on a lap ten restart and led the rest of the way for the impressive victory.

The Trophy Dash finish earlier in the evening determined the first four rows of the Main Event.  It was Joey Saldana winning that race.  Saldana had the pole for the Main Event and led the first four laps before point leader Donny Schatz raced underneath him on the back stretch to grab the lead.  Schatz was looking for his fourth win of the current West Coast swing and 30th of the season, but lap nine changed the complexion of the race.

While battling for a Top 5 position, recent Louie Vermeil Classic winner Rico Abreu flipped in Turn 2 for a red flag.  As the cars were restarted, Schatz discovered his right rear tire was going flat.  Schatz pitted to put Saldana back in first.  However, Pittman made his winning pass on the the inside down the back stretch on the restart lap.  Pittman wasn’t seriously threatened from there.  Tyler Walker moved by Saldana for second late, but Saldana regained the runner up finish with his inside pass down the back stretch on lap 28.  Walker settled for third ahead of Brad Sweet and Paul McMahan.

The 12 lap Sprint Car B Main seemed to be in the bag for Jason Sides until he spun exciting Turn 4 to take the white flag. That gave the lead and eventual win to Jason Statler ahead of Jacob Allen and Jarrett Soares.  Pittman and D.J. Netto won their heat races, while Walker used a last lap pass on Logan Schuchart to win his heat race.  Abreu broke the track qualifying record with a fast lap of 11.489 on the one third mile clay oval.

Matt Sargent out dueled Adam Teves to win the 20 lap Dwarf Car Main Event in his first appearance of the season.  A member of the famous Sargent Racing dynasty that raced Super Modifieds throughout California for decades, Matt Sargent grabbed the lead when the race was restarted and held the point until a lap five yellow flag.  Young Adam Teves surprised Sargent by riding the outside into the lead.  Sargent and Danny Wagner made it a close three car battle up front until Teves slipped off the bottom grove.  This allowed Sargent to make a back straightaway pass for the lead on lap 14.  Sargent led the rest of the way to win ahead of Teves and Wagner.

Racing resumes next Saturday night as DIRTcar Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Wingless Spec Sprints, Limited Late Models and Hobby Stocks will be part of a six division program.
